Herbal extracts modulate the amplitude and frequency of slow waves in circular smooth muscle of mouse small intestine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Background: Herbal preparations like STW 5 (Iberogast(R)) are widely used drugs in the treatment of dyspepsia and motility-related disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.

Review on Frequency Regulation Technology with High Wind Power Penetration

open access: yes, 2021
In recent years, the global wind power penetration rate has continued to increase, and wind turbines have gradually replaced traditional synchronous units, which is one of the main reasons that cause power system frequency regulation difficulties and ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

The regulation of metabolic gene expression in human skeletal muscle by exercise: the influence of exercise intensity and contraction frequency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Skeletal muscle contraction increases energy expenditure and improves metabolic flexibility, but is also a key regulator of metabolic gene expression.

Frequency Regulation and Coordinated Control for Complex Wind Power Systems

open access: yes, 2019
With the development of complex renewable energy systems, the frequency control and regulation of the power grid powered by such renewable energies (e.g., wind turbine) are more critical, since the adopted different power generators can lead to frequency

Parallel current-controlled synchronverters for voltage and frequency regulation in weak grids

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
The emulation of synchronous machines is becoming an attractive solution to provide virtual inertia and voltage support to weak grids and microgrids, representing an alternative to conventional current-injection control strategies.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

The habitual nature of unhealthy snacking: How powerful are habits in adolescence? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Many adolescents engage in unhealthy snacking behavior, and the frequency and amount of unhealthy consumption is increasing further. In this study, we aim to investigate the role that habit strength plays in unhealthy snacking during adolescence and ...

Techno Economic Analysis of Vehicle to Grid (V2G) Integration as Distributed Energy Resources in Indonesia Power System

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
High penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) leads to high stress on a power grid, especially when the supply cannot cover and actively respond to the unpredictable demand caused by charging EVs.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.
