Direct detection optical intersatellite link at 220 Mbps using AlGaAs laser diode and silicon APD with 4-ary PPM signaling [PDF]

open access: yes
A newly developed 220 Mbps free-space 4-ary pulse position modulation (PPM) direct detection optical communication system is described. High speed GaAs integrated circuits were used to construct the PPM encoder and receiver electronic circuits.

Design and Modeling of a High‐Displacement, Skin‐Integrated Flexible Electromagnetic Actuator for Haptic Interfaces in Virtual Reality

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A flexible, skin‐integrated electromagnetic actuator is developed for wearable virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR) haptic systems. A tunable design model enables control over displacement and resonance frequency. The system is validated through a custom VR application with a 6 × 4 actuator array, demonstrating real‐time, spatially targeted tactile ...

Chloroplast Stress Signals Orchestrate Epidermis‐Specific Remodeling of Mitochondria and ER Under High Light

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High light exposure triggers an epidermis‐specific remodeling of mitochondria and ER in Arabidopsis, driven by chloroplast‐derived signals. Live‐cell imaging shows that HL rapidly suppresses mitochondrial motility, followed by fusion‐driven elongation and ER cisternal expansion.

Super‐Robust Telecommunications Enabled by Topological Half‐Supermodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Through topological half‐supermode engineering, we realize a valley‐ridge gap waveguide that is directly compatible with conventional waveguides and features topological protection. This design halves the lateral size via a PEC boundary, enabling direct TE₁₀‐mode matching and robust bend‐immune transmission.

A Quad-Band Highly Selective Frequency Selective Surface with Ultra-Wideband Rejection

open access: yesMicromachines
In this paper, a highly selective quad-band frequency selective surface (FSS) with ultra-wideband rejection is presented. The proposed FSS structure was developed by cascading five metallic layers by three thin dielectric substrates.

Multimodal Layer‐Crossing Interrogation of Brain Circuits Enabled by Microfluidic Axialtrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study introduces a flexible microfluidic axialtrode that integrates optical, electrical, and chemical modalities within a single polymer fiber. By redistributing electrodes and fluidic channels along the fiber axis via angled cleaving, it enables simultaneous optogenetic stimulation, electrophysiological recording, and drug delivery across brain ...
