Fresh Water Whitecaps

Abstract Photographic observations of the whitecap coverage of large fresh water lakes were made in conjunction with measurements of wind velocity, and air and surface water temperatures. The fraction of the water surface covered by whitecaps shows an abrupt increase as the wind velocity increases from ∼7 to ∼8 m sec−1.
