Application of eDNA for monitoring freshwater bivalve Nodularia nipponensis and its glochidium larvae

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, 2022
Habitat loss, the introduction of invasive species, and climate change due to human activity have threatened many freshwater unionid bivalves worldwide. Unionid bivalves represent important members of freshwater ecosystems, providing bitterling fish with

Epizoic communities of Rotifera on freshwater bivalves

open access: yesOceanological and Hydrobiological Studies, 2010
Abstract The species structure of epizoic communities of Rotifera was analyzed on three species of freshwater bivalves: Anodonta anatina (Linnaeus), A. cygnea (Linnaeus) and Unio tumidus (Philipsson) from lakes and rivers of north-eastern Poland. Epizoic rotifer communities were abundant and relatively rich in species.

Diversity Patterns and Environmental Drivers of Bivalve Communities in the Caizi Lake Group and Its Major Tributaries During the Initial Post-Fishing Ban Period

open access: yesDiversity
To characterize freshwater bivalve communities and their environmental drivers in the Caizi Lake water system following the 10-year fishing ban in Yangtze River, this study three rounds of standardized surveys across hydrological periods in 2024—May ...

Toxicity of three comercial tannins to the nuisance invasive species Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker, 1857): implications for control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Adding biocides to water is one strategy to control macrofouling organisms. A natural biocide that helps to prevent/control macrofouling of Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker, 1857) on human installations is one way to minimize environmental impacts of ...

Evolutionary conservatism of color pattern in freshwater bivalves

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract The phylum Bivalvia is one of the most successful at survival groups of animals with diverse color patterns on their shells, and they are occasionally preserved in the fossil record as residual color patterns. However, the fossil record of the residual color patterns in freshwater bivalves could be traced only to the Miocene, greatly ...
