Bioactive Compounds in Seafood: Implications for Health and Nutrition

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 4, April 2025.
Seafood is vital in promoting cardiovascular health, regulating blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of specific cancers, combating obesity, enhancing brain health, and supporting maternal care during pregnancy and lactation. Given the rising interest in functional foods and nutraceuticals, I believe this review will be particularly interesting to ...

Environmental Peacebuilding, Indigenous Epistemologies and Experience: Learning From Ruptures and Resilience in Solomon Islands

open access: yesAsia Pacific Viewpoint, Volume 66, Issue 1, Page 130-141, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Environmental peacebuilding, as a construct and practice, holds potential to recognise environmental conflicts and respond to them; however, indigenous perspectives can be obscured in its related processes, projects and reviews. Feeding ecology of the freshwater crab Trichodactylus borellianus (Decapoda: Trichodactylidae) in the floodplain of the Paraná River, southern South America

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2013
Freshwater crabs are not commonly considered to be an important group in trophic webs, and this might be due to a lack of knowledge about their trophic roles in aquatic ecosystems.

Long‐term recovery and food web response of benthic macrofauna following cessation of bottom trawling in a marine protected area

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2025.
The study is unique in covering how the benthic community has responded to a long‐term fishing closure in one of Europe's largest strictly marine protected areas. We find the recovery of species and strong links to the food web in the response to protection.

Comparative Diets of Invasive Blue Catfish: Differences Across Rivers and Ontogenetic Stages

open access: yesEcology of Freshwater Fish, Volume 34, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Blue Catfish (Ictalurus furcatus) are an invasive species with expanding populations in freshwater systems, posing significant ecological challenges to native fauna. To assess their potential impacts in diverse aquatic ecosystems, we examined and compared the diets of non‐native Blue Catfish from four rivers in Georgia, USA, two of which drain
