Evolution of Afrotropical freshwater crab lineages obscured by morphological convergence

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2006
We use sequence data derived from six DNA gene loci to examine evolutionary and biogeographic affinities among all freshwater crab families. With an emphasis on the Afrotropical fauna that includes Africa, Madagascar, and the Seychelles, we test the proposed Gondwanan cladogenesis of the group.

Phylogenomic analyses of brachyuran crabs support early divergence of primary freshwater crabs

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2019
Recent fossil calibrated molecular phylogenies have revealed that the Brachyura underwent rapid radiation during the Cretaceous and Early Tertiary, resulting in many early diverging lineages separated by short internodes that remain difficult to resolve.

The freshwater Grapsid crabs of Jamaica

Proceedings of the Linnean Society of London, 1964
SUMMARY. Four species of grapsid crabs, endemic to Jamaica, spend the whole of their life cycle in fresh water; an account of their biology is given. Metopulias depressus is confined to the water which collects at the base of large tank bromeliads, and is limited to limestone regions above an elevation of about a 1000 ft.

The crayfish plague pathogen can infect freshwater‐inhabiting crabs

Freshwater Biology, 2014
Summary The oomycete Aphanomyces astaci is generally considered a parasite specific to freshwater crayfish, and it has become known as the crayfish plague pathogen. Old experimental work that reported transmission of crayfish plague to the Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis, and the ability of A.

Deltamethrin's Toxicological Impact on Freshwater Crab Barytelphusa cunicularis

UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY
The present study investigates the toxicological impact of deltamethrin, a widely used synthetic pyrethroid insecticide used in agriculture, specifically targeting the freshwater crab Barytelphusa cunicularis. The research delves into the insecticide’s mechanism of action and acute toxicity on the crab species.

A Brief History of Freshwater Crab Research

2016
The history of the study of the biology of freshwater crabs is described from the first records in ancient Greece up to the present day. Today, hundreds of scientists from all parts of the world are engaged in the study of all aspects of freshwater crab biology from field studies of their ecology to molecular studies of their systematics and genetics ...
