Relationships between terrestrial and freshwater lignicolous fungi

Fungal Ecology, 2016
Abstract This study investigated the communities of fungi on Magnolia liliifera wood in terrestrial and freshwater habitats in northern Thailand. Freshly fallen samples of M. liliifera wood were collected from the forest floor, oven dried, and then placed in the stream or adjacent to the stream on the forest floor as baits.

Decomposition of lignocellulose from a freshwater macrophyte by aero-aquatic fungi

Microbial Ecology, 1992
Mineralization of uniformly radiolabeled [(14)C]lignocellulose and specifically radiolabeled [(14)C-lignin]lignocellulose from the freshwater sedgeCarex walteriana by five aero-aquatic fungi was investigated. The extent of mineralization varied among the five species from 2.2 to 4.2% for the lignin component and from 3.3 to 20.6% for the polysaccharide

Freshwater fungi: Fossil record and paleoecological potential

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 1988
Abstract Representatives of most major groups of fungi occur in lakes or streams, either parasitizing other aquatic organisms or living as saprophytes on autochthonous or allochthonous organic matter. Aquatic fungi are of considerable importance in the population dynamics of plankton and in nutrient cycling via the detritus food chain. A brief survey

Evidence of in situ competition between fungi in freshwater

2016
Five species of fungi, isolated from submerged wood collected from a Brunei peat swamp forest, were tested for their competitive ability. Annulatascus velatisporus, Beverwykella pulmonaria, Dactylella sp., Monodictys pelagica and Pleurophragmium sp. were paired in all possible combinations on wood and agar in the laboratory.
