Composite Fretting Wear of Aluminum Alloy

Key Engineering Materials, 2007
A complex relative motion of fretting combined by dual motions of radial and tangential fretting was achieved on a modified fretting tester. The composite fretting motion was induced by the action of an oscillating normal force in a sphere-on-inclined flat contact (52100 steel ball against 2091 aluminum alloy). Two types of inclined angles (45° and 60°)

A generalized fretting wear theory

Tribology International, 2009
Abstract Combined impact-sliding fretting wear is a complex phenomenon due to the random nature of the excitation force and the self-induced tribological changes. Available models, which relate wear losses to the process variables, are empirical in nature and bear no physical similarity to the actual mathematical and physical attributes of the wear ...

Fretting wear of laterally supported tube

Wear, 2001
The fretting wear of a tube, which is in contact with a lateral support, is examined experimentally. A fretting wear tester is specifically designed. Elastic springs are used as the support, which can simulate the contact between a spacer grid and a fuel rod in pressurized water reactor fuel. The tubes and the springs are made of Zircaloy-4.

Fretting wear of SiAlON ceramic

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2007
Friction andwear properties of Si6- Z Al zO zN8- Z ( z = 0.5) were studied in case of fretting. SiAlON samples were prepared by hot pressing without any externally added liquid. The effect of running time, slip amplitude, and normal load on friction and wear were investigated.

Fretting Wear and Fretting Fatigue—How Are They Related?

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1983
Results from published literature and results obtained by the author are examined in detail to determine how fretting wear and fretting fatigue are related. The effects of various experimental parameters, including slip amplitude, number of fretting cycles, frequency of fretting motion, experimental atmosphere, temperature, and the performance of ...

Fretting-Wear and Fretting-Fatigue: Relation Through a Mapping Concept

2000
Developments in wear mapping recently described frontiers between partial and gross slip and between the main damages i.e. cracking and particle detachment both from experiences and from theoretical analysis. These maps, known as running condition fretting maps (RCFM) and material response fretting maps (MRFM), are powerful tools to analyze the contact
