Removal of mercury (II) from aqueous solution by using rice residues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Sorption potential of rice residues for Hg(II) removal from aqueous solution was investigated. Rice husk (RH) and rice straw (RS) were selected and treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH).

Interference of TiO2 in Fricke Dosimetry: Adsorption Mechanisms and Dose Measurement Challenges under Gamma Irradiation

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
The presence of TiO2 in Fricke dosimetric systems introduces complex interferences under gamma irradiation. Adsorption of Fe2+/Fe3+ ions, coupled with radiolytic and surface‐mediated processes, alters redox equilibria and apparent absorbed dose values, highlighting critical challenges in chemical dosimetry applied to heterogeneous radiolytic ...

Evaluating Phosphorus Sorption and Desorption in Agricultural Wastewater Using Designer Biochar Pellets

open access: yesWater Environment Research, Volume 98, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of designer biochar pellets (DBPs) in adsorbing phosphorus from tile drain outflow and agricultural wastewater effluents, with performance varying depending on the effluent source. Results highlight the potential of biochar‐based filters for targeted phosphorus removal, providing a promising approach to reduce ...

Equilibrium and dynamic moisture adsorption behaviour of bloodmeal based bioplastic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Bioplastics can be manufactured from protein or carbohydrate sources such as wheat gluten, corn, sun flower, keratin, casein, soy, gelatine and whey. A recently developed bioplastic is Novatein thermoplastic (NTP), which is produced from bloodmeal by ...

Toward Industrial Application of Cyanobacterial Biosorption: Insights From Real Electroplating Effluents

open access: yesWater Environment Research, Volume 98, Issue 4, April 2026.
The study demonstrates that exopolysaccharide‐producing cyanobacteria are effective biosorbents for metals contained in electroplating wastewater. Ni uptake (2.3–2.9 mmol/g) was higher than for precious metals such as palladium (Pd) and gold (Au) (lower than 0.1 mmol/g). D. salina 16Som2 and Cyanothece sp. CE 4 showed the best performances.

Dissolved humic substances supplied as potential enhancers of Cu, Cd, and Pb adsorption by two different mangrove sediments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose The external supply of humic substances has been recently suggested for the remediation of metal-polluted sediments; however, little is known about how to supply them and their effects on metal mobility.

Characterizing biochar as alternative sorbent for oil spill remediation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Biochar (BC) was characterized as a new carbonaceous material for the adsorption of toluene from water. The tested BC was produced from pine wood gasification, and its sorption ability was compared with that of more common carbonaceous materials such as ...
