Suspensions of finite-size neutrally-buoyant spheres in turbulent duct flow
We study the turbulent square duct flow of dense suspensions of neutrally-buoyant spherical particles. Direct numerical simulations (DNS) are performed in the range of volume fractions $\phi=0-0.2$, using the immersed boundary method (IBM) to account for

Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Stress drop sequences in the simplest pressure-sensitive ideal elasto-plastic media: implications for earthquake cycles [PDF]
This study explores stress drops and earthquake sequences in the simplest pressure-sensitive elasto-plastic media using two-dimensional simulations, emphasizing the critical role of temporal and spatial resolution in accurately capturing stress evolution

Sliding without slipping under Coulomb friction: opening waves and inversion of frictional force
An elastic layer slides on a rigid flat governed by Coulomb's friction law. We demonstrate that if the coefficient of friction is high enough, the sliding localizes within stick-slip pulses, which transform into opening waves propagating at intersonic ...

The physics of earthquakes [PDF]
Earthquakes occur as a result of global plate motion. However, this simple picture is far from complete. Some plate boundaries glide past each other smoothly, while others are punctuated by catastrophic failures.

This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

A general historical survey of mechanics of deformable bodies, in which the history of that science is divided into three periods (from Galileo to Navier, from N a vier to the creation of the theory of plasticity and from that date up to the present), is

Numerical analysis of subsoil-reinforced concrete slab interaction [PDF]
This article presents the numerical modeling of interaction between a reinforced concrete slab and subsoil using ABAQUS. Subsoil was simulated as both homogeneous half-space and inhomogeneous half-space.
