Friction Stir Spot Welding of Polypropylene
Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2008Friction stir spot welding was used to make lap joints on strip specimens of polypropylene. The effects of tool penetration depth and dwell time on joint strength were investigated. The effect of these parameters on tensile failure load of the resulting joints was determined.

Advances in friction stir spot welding
Critical Reviews in Solid State and Materials Sciences, 2019Friction stir spot welding (FSSW) is a variation of linear Friction Stir Welding (FSW), which was invented to compete with resistance spot welding (RSW) and riveting of lightweight alloys in the au...

Intermixing in Dissimilar Friction Stir Spot Welds
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2007Dissimilar intermixing during friction stir spot welding of Al 5754 and Al 6111 sheets is investigated using a combination of experimentation and numerical modeling. Dissimilar intermixing is not observed in (a) spot welds made using a tool having a smooth pin with or without a dwell period and (b) spot welds made using a threaded tool without the ...

Material flow during friction stir spot welding
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2010Material flow during friction stir spot welding (FSSW) is investigated using tracer material technique. Three distinct regions are developed in a weld after the rotating shoulder comes in close contact with the upper sheet. They are called flow transition zone, stir zone, and torsion zone which are evolved due to the combination of rotational ...

Numerical Simulation of Friction Stir Spot Welding
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2016Friction Stir Spot Welding (FSSW) is a solid state joining process that relies on frictional heating and plastic deformation realized at the interaction between a non-consumable welding tool that rotates on the contact surfaces of the workpieces. Friction Stir Spot Welding (FSSW) is an evolving technique that has received considerable attention from ...

Energy input during friction stir spot welding
Journal of Manufacturing Processes, 2014Abstract Friction stir spot welding is performed on thin plates of an aluminum alloy. This paper presents the results on how the number of tool rotations affects the quality of the resulting spot weld. Different combinations of rotation rate and dwell time are investigated. A linear relationship was found to exist between the number of tool rotations
