Bone formation on calcium phosphate bone substitute materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A large number of bone substitute materials are available; for which some authors claim osteoconductivity and some osteoinductivity. In order to rank these materials an in vivo analysis was carried out.

A 3D‐Printed SFE‐Graded Alloy Mitigates Cryogenic Discontinuous Plastic Flow and Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel strategy features gradient composition and stacking fault energy‐tuned (CoCrMn)100‐2xFexNix fabricated via in situ alloying additive manufacturing. This design circumvents cryogenic discontinuous plastic flow and hydrogen embrittlement of metallic materials under quasi‐static loading and hydrogen‐rich environment relevant to lunar polar ...

The Supratarsal Approach for Correction of Anterior Frontal Bone Fractures

open access: yes, 2018
Background: To approach isolated anterior frontal bone fracture, coronal incision is the common surgical access of choice. This approach has complications such as aesthetically undesirable scarring and alopecia along the incision line.

Clinical and tomography evolution of frontal osteomyelitis: Case report

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2012
Introduction: The frontal osteomyelitis is a complication of rhinosinusitis which can evolve to acute or chronicle. There is inflammatory reaction by the increasing of intraosseous pressure, ischemia and local necrosis, leading to bone abscess formation.

Peak bone mass after exposure to antenatal betamethasone and prematurity: Follow-up of a randomized controlled trial

open access: yes, 2006
Small birth size is associated with reduced adult bone mass. We determined if antenatal betamethasone exposure, birth weight, or prematurity affects peak bone mass in 174 adults. Antenatal betamethasone exposure did not.

Soft Active Electromyography Interface for Machine Learning‐Enabled Silent Speech Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A soft, hand‐worn electromyography interface enables intent‐driven silent speech recognition without continuous facial attachment. The device integrates liquid‐metal interconnects, a transparent flexible circuit, and elastomer encapsulation with a fingertip electrode that contacts perioral muscles only on demand.

Characterization and Selection of Contractile Actuators for Soft Robotics Operating in the Quasistatic Regime

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
We developed methods to characterize soft contractile actuators using force–displacement measurements in the passive state and the total force in the active state and define the operational range of thermal, electrothermal, and pneumatic muscles. A graphical method enables the selection of an actuator based on the required mechanical force–displacement
