The central role of the prefrontal cortex in directing attention to novel events [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The physiological basis for the striking decrease of attention to novel events following frontal lobe injury is poorly understood. In this study, event-related potentials (ERPs) were recorded from patients with frontal lobe damage and matched subjects ...

Network Localization of Fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Fatigue is among the most common symptoms and one of the main factors determining the quality of life in multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the neurobiological mechanisms underlying fatigue are not fully understood. Here we studied lesion locations and their connections in individuals with MS, aiming to identify brain networks ...

Enhanced pre-frontal functional-structural networks to support postural control deficits after traumatic brain injury in a pediatric population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects the structural connectivity, triggering the re-organization of structural-functional circuits in a manner that remains poorly understood.

Fluid and Neuroimaging Biomarkers in Microgliopathy Colony‐Stimulating Factor‐1 Receptor‐Related Disorders

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aims to identify both fluid and neuroimaging biomarkers for CSF1R‐RD that can inform the optimal timing of treatment administration to maximize therapeutic benefit, while also providing sensitive quantitative measurements to monitor disease progression.

Multiple indices of diffusion identifies white matter damage in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The study of multiple indices of diffusion, including axial (DA), radial (DR) and mean diffusion (MD), as well as fractional anisotropy (FA), enables WM damage in Alzheimer's disease (AD) to be assessed in detail.

Temporally Graded Activation of Neocortical Regions in Response to Memories of Different Ages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The temporally graded memory impairment seen in many neurobehavioral disorders implies different neuroanatomical pathways and/or cognitive mechanisms involved in storage and retrieval of memories of different ages.

The Case of a 28‐Year‐Old Woman With Medically Refractory Focal Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We present the case of a 28‐year‐old right‐handed woman with medically refractory focal epilepsy. Her seizure semiology and electroencephalography (EEG) indicated a seizure onset zone in the right central‐parietal area. However, both MRI and PET scans were unremarkable, showing no focal lesions or areas of altered metabolism.

Subcomponents and connectivity of the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus revealed by diffusion spectrum imaging fiber tracking

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2016
The definitive structure and functional role of the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF) are still controversial. In this study, we aimed to investigate the connectivity, asymmetry and segmentation patterns of this bundle.

The Roles of Age and Frontal Lobe Damage in Prospective Memory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Recent evidence suggests that the frontal lobe plays an intimate role in the meditation of prospective memory (Shallice & Burgess, 1991; Cockburn, 1995).
