FIELD TESTS ON FROST HEAVING CHARACTERISTICS OF GROUND

Doboku Gakkai Ronbunshu, 1991

Thermal characteristics of a hertfordshire frost‐hollow

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1944
AbstractRecords of temperature over a 13‐year period in a Hertfordshire valley which has been described as possessing the most “continental” thermal climate yet investigated instrumentally in the British Isles are summarised, discussed, and compared with data from other stations.

Influence of freezing mode on frost heave characteristics

Cold Regions Science and Technology, 1988
Abstract Step-freezing and ramped-freezing tests were conducted on samples using a clayey silt passing the 100 sieve with a clay size content of 29% by weight in order to emphasize the influence of various factors such as the rate of cooling, the suction at the frost front and the freezing path.

The characteristics of frost growth on parallel plates

1999
An experimental investigation was undertaken to characterize the effect of environmental conditions on frost growth on a vertical plate in a parallel flow geometry. Humid air was conditioned to have a dew point below 0°C and laminar flow prevailed. The test section was fabricated by using three cooling plates with individual insulators to minimize ...

Frost jacking characteristics of screw piles by model testing

Cold Regions Science and Technology, 2017
Abstract The foundations of photovoltaic stents in seasonally frozen regions suffer from uneven frost heave in winter, and the screw piles are widely used to reduce frost diseases. A one-dimensional frost heave model testing was conducted to assess the frost jacking characteristics of several screw piles and a no-helix pile embedded in highly frost ...

Effect of Local Frost Characteristics on Thermal Performance of Fin Tube Heat Exchanger Under Frosting Condition

Volume 4: Heat and Mass Transfer Under Extreme Conditions; Environmental Heat Transfer; Computational Heat Transfer; Visualization of Heat Transfer; Heat Transfer Education and Future Directions in Heat Transfer; Nuclear Energy, 2013
The present study aimed to measure and predict frost characteristics and heat transfer rate of fin-tube specimen, and predicted them of fin-tube heat exchanger. Test conditions were air temperature from 0.5 to 7 °C, absolute humidity from 3.18 to 4.01 g/kgDA, air velocity from 0.5 to 2.5m/s, and coolant temperature from −15 to −5 °C.

Review on the measurement and calculation of frost characteristics

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2018
Abstract As a common physical phenomenon, frost deposition is inevitable and always has significant negative effects on several industry fields, such as aerospace, aviation, and heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration. To accurately predict and control a frosting–defrosting cycle, there is a need to understand the interrelated heat,

Condensation, Frost Formation, and Frost Melt-Water Retention Characteristics on Microgrooved Brass Surfaces Under Natural Convection

Heat Transfer Engineering, 2013
In this study, frost is grown on microgrooved and flat brass samples under specific operating conditions and a comparison of the condensation, frosting, and defrosting pattern on microgrooved and flat brass surfaces is carried out experimentally. The surfaces are fabricated by a mechanical micromachining process and no chemical alteration of the ...
