Development of a Frost-Heave Testing Apparatus with a Triple Cell
International Journal of Civil Engineering, 2021In this study, the first frost-heave testing apparatus with a triple cell was developed that can measure the amount of frost-heave and heaving pressure, as well as achieve high-accuracy temperature control. The performance of the apparatus was validated by a series of frost-heave tests, which were conducted in a closed system with saturated sandy soil ...

Aspects on the laboratory frost heave testing procedure
In this paper, some general features of freezing behaviour of frost susceptible soils are presented and discussed to improve the compatibility between field and laboratory characteristics. As an engineering approach, a theory for establishing frost-heave parameters is a modified segregation potential theory.

Tests of the Concept of Secondary Frost Heaving
Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1975Abstract Heaving tests were conducted with 2–4, 4–8, and 8–16 µm soil fractions in special apparatus in which sliding friction (during heaving) was eliminated by confining the specimen as in standard triaxial test apparatus. Maximum pressures developed by heaving exceeded those computed by a primary heaving model (

The development of frost heave testing equipment
Matériaux et Constructions, 1973The paper presents details of the development of a deep freeze cabinet and of a cold room for carrying out the Road Research Laboratory frost heave test and the results obtained in the two testing facilities are compared. The majority of the tests reported were undertaken on burnt and on unburnt colliery shale, both in their natural state and when ...

FIELD TESTS ON FROST HEAVING CHARACTERISTICS OF GROUND

Modified porosity rate frost heave model and tests verification
SPIE Proceedings, 2008To avoid the complexity of modeling frost heave from microscope, porosity rate function has been used in predication of frost heave phenomenon. The approach explored in this paper is based on frost heave tests and the concept of the segregated potential which has been widely accepted by researchers in order to find the proper form of the porosity rate ...

Application of PIV Technique in Model Test of Frost Heave of Unsaturated Soil
Journal of Cold Regions Engineering, 2020Abstract Frost heave of soil is a highly nonuniform problem, in which the local deformation is much more severe and meaningful compared with the overall deformation.

Improvements in Frost Heave Laboratory Testing of Fine-Grained Soils
Journal of Cold Regions Engineering, 2008We present a laboratory system designed for studying frost heave in fine-grained soil. The system consists of: a modified refrigerator, a frost heave test cell, a laser for measuring heave, a differential pressure transducer for measuring water intake, and platinum resistance temperature detectors for measuring pedestal temperatures.
