Genetic studies of frost resistance in wheat
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1981Genetic studies of frost resistance were performed on various wheat varieties using diallel, F2 monosomic and substitution analysis.A six-parental cross including reciprocals was carried out, and F1 hybrids and their parents were used for the freezing tests under controlled conditions. Both the general combining ability (GCA) and the specific combining

Frost resistance of rock materials
Construction and Building Materials, 2017Abstract A precise classification of rock raw materials with respect to frost-resistance is still an issue. The knowledge of the rock’s origin and its mineral composition and structure is not an effective diagnostic tool. This paper discusses the possibility of applying the capillary absorption and volumetric strain of a frozen rock sample for ...

Frost resistance in adult insects
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1972Abstract Some adult Coleoptera and Hymenoptera collected in winter in Hokkaido, Japan, proved to be frost-resistant. The limit of low temperatures at which they could tolerate prolonged freezing without any post-thawing injury was only −10°C regardless of their glycerol content.

Frost Resistance and the Distribution of Conifers
2001The distribution of plants is well correlated with climate. For example, Koppen’s (1936) climate classification is based on major biomes which are subdivided with respect to various relationships between temperature and precipitation, whilst Thornthwaite’s (1948) classification is based on potential evapo-transpiration.

Frost, Drought, and Heat Resistance
Annual Review of Plant Physiology, 1951With the exception of Chapter 5, the present work deals solely with plants. This was necessary because the author is a botanist and not familiar with the animal literature. It is also reasonable, since tolerance plays a greater role in the resistance of plants. The greater complexity of animal morphology, which may lead to the death of a whole organism
