Carbon source-sink limitations differ between two Species with Contrasting Growth Strategies. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Understanding how carbon source and sink strengths limit plant growth is a critical knowledge gap that hinders efforts to maximise crop yield. We investigated how differences in growth rate arise from source-sink limitations, using a model system ...

Update of the list of qualified presumption of safety (QPS) recommended microbiological agents intentionally added to food or feed as notified to EFSA 21: Suitability of taxonomic units notified to EFSA until September 2024

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract The qualified presumption of safety (QPS) process was developed to provide a safety assessment approach for microorganisms intended for use in food or feed chains. In the period covered by this Statement, no new information was found that would change the status of previously recommended QPS taxonomic units (TUs).

Clinical glycoproteomics: methods and diseases

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 5, Issue 10, October 2024.
An overview of clinical glycoproteomics: methods and diseases. The primary types of glycosylations include N‐glycosylation and O‐glycosylation. Three main glycoproteomic strategies are employed, with the bottom‐up approach being the most commonly utilized.

Update of the list of qualified presumption of safety (QPS) recommended microbiological agents intentionally added to food or feed as notified to EFSA 20: Suitability of taxonomic units notified to EFSA until March 2024

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 22, Issue 7, July 2024.
Abstract The qualified presumption of safety (QPS) process was developed to provide a safety assessment approach for microorganisms intended for use in food or feed chains. In the period covered by this statement, no new information was found that would change the status of previously recommended QPS TUs. The TUs in the QPS list were updated based on a

Characterization of sucrose: sucrose fructosyltransferase from crested wheatgrass* [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 1988
summaryBiosynthesis of the trisaccharide precursor of fructan occurs through the action of sucrose: sucrose fructosyltransferase (SST). This study defines the optimal conditions for in vitro SST and invertase activities from a crested wheatgrass hybrid developed from a cross between Agropyron cristatum (L.) Gaertn. ×A. desertorum (Fisch.

Cell‐type proteomic and metabolomic resolution of early and late grain filling stages of wheat endosperm

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 22, Issue 3, Page 555-571, March 2024.
Summary The nutritional value of wheat grains, particularly their protein and metabolite composition, is a result of the grain‐filling process, especially in the endosperm. Here, we employ laser microdissection (LMD) combined with shotgun proteomics and metabolomics to generate a cell type‐specific proteome and metabolome inventory of developing wheat ...

Regulation of fructan metabolism in barley leaves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Fructans, the polymers of fructose (Fru), are major non-structural storage carbohydrates in the vegetative tissues of many higher plants including temperate forage grasses and cereals, as well as major crop plants such as wheat and barley.

Pangenome Analysis of Helicobacter pylori Isolates from Selected Areas of Africa Indicated Diverse Antibiotic Resistance and Virulence Genes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Genomics, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
The challenge facing Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection management in some parts of Africa is the evolution of drug‐resistant species, the lack of gold standard in diagnostic methods, and the ineffectiveness of current vaccines against the bacteria.

Fructan and its relationship to abiotic stress tolerance in plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Numerous studies have been published that attempted to correlate fructan concentrations with freezing and drought tolerance. Studies investigating the effect of fructan on liposomes indicated that a direct interaction between membranes and fructan was ...

Development of Root Caries Associated With the Use of Sugar‐Free Nicotine Lozenges: A Long‐Term Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Dentistry, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
The authors present a case concerning an adult male patient who developed multiple sites of root caries adjacent to the area where he habitually held a sugar‐free nicotine lozenge that contained mannitol and maltodextrin. The root caries occurred despite the patient’s excellent oral hygiene, exemplary dietary habits, and clinically normal salivary flow.
