Development of a set of apple SSRs markers spanning the apple genome, genotyping of HiDRAS plant material and validation of genotypic data

open access: yes, 2009
The Pedigree Genotyping concept (van de Weg et al., 2004) forms the base of the EU-project HiDRAS, aimed at the identification of molecular markers for fruit quality and disease resistance.

Guidelines for High‐Throughput Screening for Natural Products With Anti‐Aging Activity Based on Drosophila Intestinal Homeostasis

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aging represents a critical risk factor for chronic diseases, driving an urgent demand for interventions promoting healthy longevity. This study establishes standardized guidelines for high‐throughput screening (HTS) of anti‐aging natural products using Drosophila melanogaster, leveraging its intestinal homeostasis as a biomarker.

Temperate Fruit Breeding in Brazil

open access: yesJournal of the American Pomological Society, 1981
Brazil consumes over 500,000 tons of temperate fruits each year. The most used temperate fruit is the apple, of which about 240,000 tons are consumed annually, followed by the peach with 100,000 tons. The other species of major importance are pear (80,000 tons), fig (45,000 tons), plums (25,000 tons), and nuts (12,000 tons).

Staging an Experience of Cultural Heritage Preservation: Consumers' Willingness to Pay for Heirloom Rice in the Philippines

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Cordillera Administrative Region in the Philippines is home to terraced rice embedded in centuries of cultural heritage. However, weak market incentives threaten sustained production, jeopardizing indigenous communities' cultural heritage and the in situ biodiversity of rice genetic resources.

Drivers of Farmers' Contract Compliance Behavior: Evidence From a Case Study of Dangote Tomato Processing Plant in Northern Nigeria

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Contract farming is a viable strategy agribusinesses rely on to strengthen coordination across actors in the value chain. However, low contract compliance remains a significant setback to agribusinesses' contract performance in low‐ and middle‐income country context.

Young children's perspectives of time: New directions for co‐constructing understandings of quality in ECEC

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Children's relationship with time in preschools is an under‐researched area. Young children rarely know how to measure time using a clock, but their experiences of time may contribute to understanding children's well‐being and debates about quality in preschools.

Chromosome level high-density integrated genetic maps improve the Pyrus bretschneideri ‘DangshanSuli’ v1.0 genome

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2018
Background Chromosomal level reference genomes provide a crucial foundation for genomics research such as genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and whole genome selection. The chromosomal-level sequences of both the European (Pyrus communis) and Chinese

Efficiency and Technology Gap in European Apple Production—A Metafrontier Model for Germany, Italy, and Poland

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT EU member states have exhibited varying rates of apple production growth. Technical efficiency (TE) estimation is suitable for identifying best‐practice farm performance. This study examined whether the development of the apple sector in Germany, Italy, and Poland was influenced by production efficiency, access to technology, as well as ...

Production of HSVd- and PPV-free apricot cultivars by in vitro thermotherapy followed by meristem culture

open access: yesPlant Methods
Background The production of virus-free apricots (Prunus armeniaca L.) is essential for controlling viral diseases, exchanging breeding materials without the risk of spreading new diseases, and preserving plant germplasm. Plum pox virus (PPV) is the most

Integration of linkage mapping, QTL analysis, RNA-seq data, and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to explore relative flowering traits in almond

open access: yesHorticultural Plant Journal
Almond [Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb] is one of the oldest cultivated nut tree crops in the world. Breeding efforts aim to develop new cultivars with improved economically significant traits, including higher yields and superior kernel quality, which ...
