Advances in fruit breeding in Nepal

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Natural Resources, 2020
Nepal has spent about six decades on fruit development and research in different species. Fruit breeding particularly local and exotic germplasm collection started after 1950s and has gained momentum after the formation of commodity programme in 1972 AD. Major researches in the past were focused on indigenous and exotic genotype collection, evaluation,

Selection estimation of red currant hybrid family ‘Belaya Potapenko’ x SS 1426-21-80

open access: yesОвощи России, 2019
Relevance. One of the priority trends in berry crop breeding is to create highly adaptive and resistant to biotic and abiotic environmental factors varieties with high commodity and consumer quality of berries, not inferior to the best Western European ...

Optimized Lipid Nanoparticles with Tail‐Modified Ionizable Lipids for Safer mRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Systematic engineering of hydrophobic tail architecture in vitamin B5‐derived ionizable lipids establishes a comprehensive structure–activity relationship framework for mRNA delivery. Combined lipidtail and formulation optimization identifies TM1‐OPT3‐C, a lipid nanoparticle platform that improves efficacy–safety balance through efficient mRNA delivery,

A self-compatible pear mutant derived from γ-irradiated pollen carries an 11-Mb duplication in chromosome 17

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Self-compatibility is a highly desirable trait for pear breeding programs. Our breeding program previously developed a novel self-compatible pollen-part Japanese pear mutant (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai), ‘415-1’, by using γ-irradiated pollen.

An Artificially Selected Cytokinin‐Pathway Transcription Factor Balances Soybean Yield and Pathogen Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cytokinin pathway transcription factor, RR2b, was artificially selected during soybean domestication and improvement based on its differential transcriptional activity, which correlates with ATT repeat polymorphisms in its promoter. RR2b balances yield and defense by fine‐tuning its expression level and offers a promising target for decoupling trade ...

Subversion of Atypical Mucin Traps by a Spore‐Coat Effector Blocks Cellular Immunity in Drosophila

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
While the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii can evade insect humoral immunity, its subversion of cellular defenses is still elusive. We identify Eac1 as a spore‐coat protein essential for infecting drosophilids by targeting atypical mucins (Sgf1 and Sgf2), which can entrap spores in a gel matrix and thereby facilitate hemocyte encapsulation.

Adaptive Responses of Tropical Crops: A Multi‐Scale Omics Integrated Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tropical crops integrate genomic, morphological, physiological, and ecological adaptations to thrive under extreme and variable environments. This review highlights how natural selection, domestication, and breeding shape stress resilience, resource‐use strategies, and productivity in sugarcane, banana, cassava, rubber and oil palm, offering new routes

Breeding, genetics, and genomics of fruit trees

open access: yesBreeding Science, 2016
Because most regions of Japan are in the temperate climate zone, many deciduous and evergreen fruit crops are cultivated in Japan. In addition to fruit cultivation in the temperate zone, some southern areas, such as the Ryukyu Islands that stretch from Kyushu to Taiwan, are at the northern limits for tropical fruit production without the need of ...

Herbicide Metabolic Resistance in Poaceae Plants via the GA‐GID1/DELLA‐DOF2‐P450s Module

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plant hormone signaling modulates herbicide resistance in Echinochloa crus‐galli. The GA–DELLA–DOF2 cascade directly activates P450 detoxification genes in two Poaceae species, uncovering a core mechanism of metabolic herbicide resistance. ABSTRACT Barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus‐galli) is one of the world's most important weeds, and the evolution of ...

Commodity and consumer qualities of fruits of plum cultivars from the RRIFCB (VNIISPK) gene pool

open access: yesОвощи России, 2020
Relevance. One of the most important directions in the breeding and variety study of fruits, in particular domestic plum European, is the breeding of cultivars with high commercial and consumer qualities of fruits.
