Soil salinity effects on pollen and pollinator visitation in a buzz‐pollinated glycophyte, Solanum carolinense

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Human activity has significantly altered the salt cycle, affecting an estimated 2.5 billion acres of soil worldwide. Elevated soil salinity is a well‐known plant stressor, but it may also affect interactions between plants and insects, which are often sodium limited.

Will You Be Ready for Postbloom Fruit Drop?

open access: yesEDIS, 2016
Again in 2016, post bloom fruit drop (PFD) caused widespread problems in Florida groves. There were multiple factors that contributed to the outbreak in 2016. The primary factor was likely the extended bloom that many saw because of a combination of tree stress caused by huanglongbing (HLB) and the very warm winter.

Influence of plant growth regulators on fruit drop, fruit retention and fruit yield of mango (Mangifera indica l.) cv. Amrapali under west central table land zone of Odisha

open access: yes
Farmers in the western region of Odisha are grappling with issues related to low fruit set, fruit drop, and erratic yield in mango cultivation. Plant growth regulators (PGRs) play a pivotal role in addressing fruit drop at different developmental stages ...

2019–2020 Florida Citrus Production Guide: Postbloom Fruit Drop

open access: yes, 2019
Postbloom fruit drop (PFD) must be controlled on processing and fresh-market fruit. PFD, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum acutatum, affects all species and cultivars of citrus, but severity on a given cultivar varies according to the time of bloom in ...

UHPLC–MS based metabolomics study of the ErZhi formula on skeletal muscle against osteosarcopenia focusing on energy metabolism

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
ErZhi formula (EZF) is composed of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus (LLF) and Ecliptae herba (EH). Ovariectomized (OVX) and sham rats received 12‐week intragastric treatment with EZF, alendronate, and vehicle saline. Gastrocnemius tissues were harvested to systematically evaluate pharmacodynamic changes in skeletal muscle morphology, mitochondrial ...

Pracaxi Oil as a Potential Inhibitor of Fat Bloom

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fat bloom is one of the major technological challenges faced by the chocolate industry, caused by the polymorphic transition from β2(V) to β1(VI) crystals in cocoa butter (CB). One strategy to slow down this polymorphic transition is the addition of lipids rich in very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA), such as behenic acid.

Sustainable Palm Oil Extraction and Trends in the Use of Green Technologies: State‐of‐the‐Art and Future Directions

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Palm oil, which is extracted from the mesocarp of the fruit of the Elaeis guineensis Jacq. palm tree, is the most widely produced vegetable oil in the world. The extraction of this substance typically utilizes the conventional pressing method, a technique that is advantageous due to its low operating cost and simplified process.

Practical, physiological and molecular aspects of fruit abscission

open access: yes, 2006
Many fruit species bear an abundance of flowers which produce a surplus of fruit that the tree is unable to support. In anticipation of this the major fruit species developed an immature fruit physiological drop as self regulatory mechanism.
