Recently Evolved, Stage‐Specific Genes Are Enriched at Life‐Stage Transitions in Flies
Journal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.We discovered that 20%–30% of protein‐coding genes in Drosophila melanogaster and Aedes aegypti are only expressed during specific stages of development. Surprisingly, many of these stage‐specific genes are newly evolved, unique to flies and mosquitoes, shedding light on how insect development has evolved over time.
