Temporal Coordination of Hippocampal Neurons Reflects Cognitive Outcome Post-febrile Status Epilepticus

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2016
The coordination of dynamic neural activity within and between neural networks is believed to underlie normal cognitive processes. Conversely, cognitive deficits that occur following neurological insults may result from network discoordination.

A fluoride-selective electrode (Fse) for the quantification of fluoride in lithium-ion battery (Lib) electrolytes

open access: yes, 2016
In this work, a fluoride-selective electrode (FSE) was applied with regard to the analysis of fluoride in lithium hexafluorophosphate-based lithium-ion battery (LIB) electrolytes. The influence of linear organic carbonate solvents dimethyl carbonate (DMC)

From Bug to Feature: Harnessing Cross‐Sensitivity for Multiparametric Luminescence Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cross‐sensitivity in luminescence sensing is reframed from a limitation into a resource for multiparametric detection. Using ruby microspheres as a model system, cross‐sensitivity is quantitatively assessed and exploited through linear discriminant analysis, enabling simultaneous, correction‐free pressure and temperature sensing with a single ...

Weeping forsythia extract alleviates dexamethasone-induced oxidative injury of breast muscles in broilers

open access: yesAnimal, 2019
Antioxidants have been always used to improve post-slaughter meat quality in broilers subjected to stress. Forsythia suspensa extract (FSE), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, is generally regarded as a natural source of antioxidants.

Shape‐Changing Multiphase Microparticles from Complex Liquid Crystal Emulsions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid crystalline network (LCN) microparticles are prepared from single, double (Janus), and triple emulsions through a simple and scalable bulk‐emulsification strategy. Under heating, the particles exhibit robust, reversible, large‐amplitude deformations that depend both on the morphology and the liquid crystals director field configuration.

Ising spin glass transition in magnetic field out of mean-field

open access: yes, 2009
The spin-glass transition in external magnetic field is studied both in and out of the limit of validity of mean-field theory on a diluted one dimensional chain of Ising spins where exchange bonds occur with a probability decaying as the inverse power of

Light hadron spectroscopy with two flavors of $O(a)$-improved dynamical quarks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We present a high statistics study of the light hadron spectrum and quark masses in QCD with two flavors of dynamical quarks. Numerical simulations are carried out using the plaquette gauge action and the O(a)-improved Wilson quark action at \beta=5.2 ...

Spin and Charge Control of Topological End States in Chiral Graphene Nanoribbons on a 2D Ferromagnet

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral graphene nanoribbons on a ferromagnetic gadolinium‐gold surface alloy display tunable spin and charge states at their termini. Atomic work function variations and exchange fields enabe transitions between singlet, doublet, and triplet configurations.

Why Modern Open Source Projects Fail

open access: yes, 2017
Open source is experiencing a renaissance period, due to the appearance of modern platforms and workflows for developing and maintaining public code. As a result, developers are creating open source software at speeds never seen before.
