Poverty Attributions and Voting Choices in the 2023 Swiss National Elections

open access: yesSwiss Political Science Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Is poverty a relevant issue for Swiss electoral politics and political behavior? In this paper we answer that question by showing that citizens’ agreement with different causal attributions of poverty matters for their voting decisions. Of highest relevance is the difference between an “individual blame” explanation (i.e., the poor are lazy ...

Evaluation of FSO link throughput in Qatar

open access: yes2015 4th Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing (MECO), 2015
Despite the vibrant advantages of Free Space Optics (FSO) technology and the variety of its applications, its widespread adoption has been hampered by rather disappointing link reliability for long-range links due to atmospheric turbulence-induced fading and sensitivity to detrimental climate conditions.

How the Electoral System Influences Personalization and Individual Campaign Spending: Evidence from Switzerland's First‐Time Finance Disclosure Regulations

open access: yesSwiss Political Science Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Personalization—greater candidate‐centeredness at the expense of political parties—is a defining feature of 21st‐century electoral politics. But to what extent does the electoral system shape this trend? We develop a theoretical argument rooted in the design of open‐list proportional representation (OLPR).

Axicons in FSO Systems

open access: yes, 2010
This paper studies the possibility of using axicons in Free Space Optics (FSO) systems. The behavior of the pseudo- Bessel beams generated by "logarithmic" and "linear" axicons, with or without stops, was analyzed through the Huygens-Fresnel integral of diffraction in cylindrical coordinates.

Do Family Changes Constitute a Comprehensive Demographic Shift? A Comparison of the Spatial Dynamics of Five Family Changes in Switzerland (1969–2023)

open access: yesTijdschrift voor Economische en Sociale Geografie, EarlyView.
Abstract Several theories have been proposed to explain the family changes that have occurred in Europe since the mid‐1960s. It is often assumed that as these changes occurred simultaneously; they have a common origin and represent the same demographic shift.

A New Optimization Problem in FSO Communication System [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Communications Letters, 2018
According to the physical phenomena of atmospheric channels and wave propagation, performance of wireless communication systems can be optimized by simply adjusting its parameters. This way is more economically favorable than consuming power or using processing techniques.

St John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) Oil on Immune Response, Growth Performance and Bacterial Resistance Against Lactococcus garvieae Pathogen in Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 49, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT In this study, we investigated the immunomodulatory effects of St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) oil on the growth performance, immune responses and resistance against Lactococcus garvieae in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The plant oil was incorporated into feeds at concentrations of 1, 3, and 5 g kg−1, designated as K1, K3, and K5,
