Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Studies on Woolen Threads from Historical Tapestries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Fourier transform (FTIR) attenuated total reflectance (ATR)and second derivative spectroscopy has been used for the first time to evaluate the state of degradation in historical woollen threads from the collections of Flemish tapestries (15th-17th ...

Central mode and soft mode behavior in PbMg1/Nb2/3O3 relaxor ferroelectric

open access: yes, 2004
The relaxor ferroelectric PbMg1/Nb2/3O3 was investigated by means of broad-band dielectric and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) transmission spectroscopy in the frequency range from 1 MHz to 15 THz at temperatures between 20 and 900 K using PMN films on

Cadmium invert sodium phosphate glasses: A structural peculiarities

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University for Science, 2021
xCdO.(100-x) (yNa2O.zP2O5) invert glasses, with CdO substituted for both Na2O and P2O5 were successfully prepared using a melt-quenching method. x changed up to 45 mol% and z equals y in all cases.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

Effects of air plasma treatment on water uptake of wheat and barley seeds

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University for Science, 2021
In this study, radio-frequency (RF) plasma was used to treat the surface seeds of wheat and barley. Plasma treatment was conducted for different exposure times (1, 5, and 10 min) and at different powers (20, 50, 80 and 100 W), keeping the air gas ...

High‐Concentration Mesogen‐Assisted Exfoliation of Low‐Dimensional Nanomaterials for Achieving Ultralow‐Temperature Actuations of Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Most matter is nominally frozen in the polar regions or space, and liquid crystal materials are no exception. Consequently, soft actuators, including liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), are inoperative under such extreme cold in response to stimuli, as their motion relies on mechanical deformation.
