Quantitative analysis of shales by KBr-FTIR and micro-FTIR
Fuel, 2014Abstract Fine-grained texture, complex mineralogical composition, and diverse organic matter types cause large heterogeneity of shale, and the resulting analytical challenge can only be met with high-resolution techniques. Quantitative determination of clay minerals, quartz and carbonates, as well as organic matter in shale on a micrometer-scale is ...

FTIR And TGA/FTIR Characterization Of A Polyethylene Photodegradable Concentrate
SPIE Proceedings, 1989An integrated thermogravimetric/Fourier transform infrared (TGA/FTIR) system is used to detect the presence of a fatty acid in a commercial, photodegradable, polyethylene concentrate. This technique is simple, rapid, convenient, and requires minimal sample manipulation. It can be very useful for monitoring the differences in resin concentrates. Results

FTIR Spectroscopy of Metalloproteins
2014Absorption of infrared radiation by proteins gives important information about their structure and function. The most intense infrared bands correspond to the overlap of all the peptide bond absorption. Additionally, in many metalloproteins their prosthetic groups have intrinsic ligands or bind substrates/inhibitors that absorb intensively in the ...

FTIR and the illusion of superluminality
Frontiers in Optics 2004/Laser Science XXII/Diffractive Optics and Micro-Optics/Optical Fabrication and Testing, 2004The propagation of evanescent pulses under the conditions of frustrated internal reflection (FTIR) may appear as superluminal and non-causal, but only if it is treated as a 1D tunneling phenomenon. When its 3D nature is fully accounted for, it may be simply explained through a subluminal causal theory.

We apply mid-infrared near-field microscopy with broad-band spectroscopic operation to problems in biomineralization. Inspecting tooth material we find vibrational resonances of phosphate nanocrystals distinctly shifted from bulk phosphates. This is enabled by the extraordinary spectral narrowing promoted by the near-field interaction over far-field ...

Investigation of folding in protamine by FTIR
Talanta, 1992The secondary structure of purified protamine, a non-specific DNA binding protein, was studied in solution at pH 4, 7 and 8 by FTIR. This permitted analysis of the folded form of the protein (acidic pH) as well as the folded conformers (neutral and basic pH).

FTIR Spectral Components of Schwertmannite
Environmental Science & Technology, 2010Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectral components of three dominant groups of sulfate species in synthetic schwertmannite (Fe(8)O(8)(OH)(6-x)(SO(4))(x)*nH(2)O) are presented. These components were extracted by multivariate curve resolution analysis of spectra obtained from N(2)(g)-dry samples initially reacted in aqueous solutions (pH 3-9) at room ...
