What's 'cool' in the world of green façades? How plant choice influences the cooling properties of green walls [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Green walls provide an option for reducing the thermal load on buildings, reducing the requirement for mechanised air conditioning and helping to mitigate urban heat islands. The range and extent of benefits can vary with green wall typology.

Mitochondrial Markers COI and 16S rRNA for the Molecular Identification of Parrots and Macaws Recovered From Illegal Trafficking in Three Areas of Colombia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
We molecularly characterized parrots (Amazona spp.) and macaws (Ara spp.) rescued from illegal trafficking in Colombia using two mitochondrial markers (COI and 16S rRNA). The COI gene showed high resolution for species identification and revealed considerable intraspecific diversity, while 16S rRNA displayed limited taxonomic resolution.

Is it turquoise + fuchsia = purple or is it turquoise + fuchsia = blue? [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2011
The first step in communicating color is to name it. The second step is color semiotics. The third step is introducing structure in the set of colors. In color education at all levels, this structure often takes the form of formulae, like red + green = yellow, or turquoise + red = black.

Recruitment of Native Pollinators and Dispersers by Lonicera japonica May Facilitate Its Invasion and Its Potential Threat to Local Biodiversity

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Lonicera japonica is a plant native to Asia that has been widely used in landscaping as an ornamental plant, but has escaped cultivation and become invasive in several countries. This study examined the reproductive phenology, pollinator attraction, and potential dispersal mechanisms of L.

Population size, sex-ratio and sexual dimorphism in Fuchsia parviflora (Onagraceae) an endemic dioecious shrub

open access: yesBotan‪ical Sciences, 2017
Background: In small dioecious populations stochastic events may increase biased sex ratios decreasing the viability of populations. Moreover, pollinators may promote pollen limitation if sexual dimorphism related to pollinator attraction, such as flower
