On the development of fuel assemblies

Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 1991
Abstract Investigations of RBMK fuel assembly models of various geometries were carried out to develop fuel assemblies with reduced uranium dioxide temperatures and decreased void reactivity effect. The investigations include thermophysical experiments and neutron and physical calculations.

Nonlinear vibrations of a 3 × 3 reduced scale PWR fuel assembly supported by spacer grids

, 2020
The core of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) is composed by nuclear fuel assemblies, bundles of slender fuel rods containing uranium pellets, kept in position by spacer grids equipped with elastic elements for retention, and exposed to an axial flow of ...

Measurement of core flow distribution in a research reactor using plate-type fuel assembly

, 2020
In the present study, the core flow distribution of research reactors that used a plate-type fuel was investigated by measuring the flow rates at all fuel assembly locations to determine the flow uniformity in the reactor core.

CFD investigation for a 7-pin wire-wrapped fuel assembly with different shapes of fuel duct wall

, 2020
The wire-wrapped assembly could enhance the safety and the economy of the reactor, however the complex structure brings some new problems for thermal-hydraulic analysis.

Fuel Sub-assembly

2017
Superphenix fuel sub-assembly was presenting three main differences compared to Phenix one: Sub-assembly dimensions more important. 30 % increase in the clad diameter, which led to choose annular pellets so as to limit the fuel heart temperature.

Assembly of Fuel Cells and Stacks with Robots

2009
PEM-fuel cell stacks (PEM = Polymer-Electrolyte-Membrane) are still produced manually to a large extent. Therefore identical components have to be positioned precisely. Besides higher total costs, logistical and weight problems is also a result in a higher statistical sensitivity for failures due to assembly errors and the total of assembly tolerances.

Finite element analysis of the mechanical behavior of a nuclear fuel assembly spacer grid

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2019
The purpose of this study is to develop a finite element model that accurately describes the mechanical behavior of a spacer grid. The spacer grid is the most important component of a nuclear fuel assembly and supports the fuel rod with a structurally ...

Numerical prediction of flow and heat transfer in an infinite wire-wrapped fuel assembly

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2019
Assessment of different Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) based modelling approaches is performed for an infinite wire-wrapped fuel assembly configuration of a Liquid Metal Fast Reactor (LMFR).

Seismic tests of fuel assemblies

Russian Engineering Research, 2012
Seismic tests of full-scale mockups of fuel assemblies from the VVER-1000 reactor permit the determination of the transfer characteristics between the stimulus (acceleration of the supports) and the response of the fuel assemblies. No resonant responses of the fuel assemblies to seismic loads are observed.
