Ship fuel consumption prediction based on transfer learning: Models and applications
Engineering Applications of Artificial IntelligenceData-driven fuel consumption rate (FCR) prediction models largely depend on the amount of training data, which can be scarce for new ships with limited operating time. To tackle this issue, we implement three transfer learning strategies to leverage knowledge from another seven container ships to construct artificial neural network (ANN)-based FCR ...

A Method of Predicting Brake Specific Fuel Consumption Maps
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1999<div class="htmlview paragraph">A method of predicting brake specific fuel consumption characteristics from limited specifications of engine design has been investigated. For spark ignition engines operating on homogeneous mixtures, indicated specific fuel consumption based on gross indicated power is related to compression ratio and spark timing

A Simulation Tool for Predicting Fuel Consumption for Heavy Trucks
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2001Abstract Low fuel consumption is very important for a heavy truck. The best combination of engine. gearbox, central gear and tire dimension varies depending on transport task and road conditions. For these reasons it is important to find the best combination of powertrain components so that the optimum operationalarea of the engine can be used as ...

Fuel consumption prediction for heavy-duty vehicles using digital maps
2017 IEEE 20th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC), 2017With the steep increase of heavy-duty transportation, more fuel efficient technologies and services have become of great importance due to their environmental impact (in terms of CO 2 emissions) and economical impact (costs for the fleet managers). This work addresses the problem of finding the less expensive itinerary among several ones provided by a

Predictive ADAS functionalities to lower fuel consumption
2017This project is a proof of concept consisting of four functionalities, all of which are aimed at lowering DAF’s heavy-duty vehicles fuel consumption. In addition, the truck’s safety level, comfort level & road acceptance had to be maintained throughout the lifetime of the project. The proof of concept relies on the current ACC onboard forward radar.
