MORE EFFICIENT UTILIZATION OF FUELS
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1919<div class="htmlview paragraph"><b>HIGH-compression engines for automobiles, Mr. Kettering predicts, are not far off if the petroleum and automobile industries cooperate in their development.</b></div> <div class="htmlview paragraph"><b>An engine operating at high compression ratios, he points out, gives impressive ...

Reframing Automotive Fuel Efficiency
SAE International Journal of Sustainable Transportation, Energy, Environment, & Policy, 2020<div>Electric powertrains’ astounding recent progress often eclipses comparable energy-saving potential from aggressively reducing tractive load, especially by ambitious lightweighting. Both strategies are valid and important, but their diverse benefits—transcending simple competition ...

Efficient multicomponent fuel algorithm
Combustion Theory and Modelling, 2003We derive equations for multicomponent fuel evaporation in airborne fuel droplets and wall films, and implement the model into KIVA-3V. Temporal and spatial variations in liquid droplet composition and temperature are not modelled but solved for by discretizing the interior of the droplet in an implicit and computationally efficient way.

The transport energy trade-off: Fuel-efficient traffic versus fuel-efficient cities
Transportation Research Part A: General, 1988Improving fuel efficiency in vehicular traffic by increasing average speeds is shown to have a major trade-off through land use changes and modal shifts that result in an overall loss in fuel efficiency for the total urban area. In Perth, even though vehicles in central areas have a 19% lower fuel efficiency than average due to congestion, the central ...

Development and Testing of Fuel-Efficient Fuel Additive
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1985<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper describes the physical properties and chemical components of a new fuel additive package along with various testing procedures used in the development of the product. It describes the use of the Fuel Economy Engine Oil Test procedure in determining the relative fuel economy effects of the additive.
