HTGR fuel rod deconsolidation [PDF]
High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor fuel particles are bonded into rods by a carbonaceous matrix. In conjunction with the development of a system to determine fuel failure fractions from gamma analysis of individual particles, a technique was developed to separate the particles from the matrix after irradiation.

Neutronic design and evaluation of the solid microencapsulated fuel in LWR
Solid Microencapsulated Fuel (SMF) is a type of solid fuel rod design that disperses TRISO coated fuel particles directly into a kind of matrix. SMF is expected to provide improved performance because of the elimination of cladding tube and associated ...

Exergy analysis of a PWR nuclear steam supply system - II part: a case study [PDF]
The paper shows the results of the exergetic analysis of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) of the MARS Pressurized Light Water Reactor using the theoretical methodology described in the authors’ previous works [1] and [2].

Effect of bi-directional excitation input on boiling water reactor scrammability
When a large earthquake occurs, a boiling water reactor is automatically shutdown through the insertion of control rods among fuel assemblies. A fuel assembly can vibrate in-plane when two seismic waves act on it in directions at right angles to each ...

Exergy analysis of a PWR core heat transfer [PDF]
The exergetic analysis, a methodology of thermodynamics that quantifies of energy losses associated with irreversibility, allows to optimize the efficiencies of the various stages of a transformation process and thus its overall efficiency.

Influence of grid-to-rod fit on fuel rod fretting
The fretting behavior of nuclear fuel assemblies is influenced by a number of parameters. One of these is the fit between the fuel rod and the spacer grid, which changes during the fuel residence time in the core. The influence of fit on fretting has been investigated by performing model tests on a typical fuel rod support configuration.

Fretting Wear and Fatigue Life Analysis of Fuel Bundles Subjected to Turbulent Axial Flow in CEFR
In a fast spectrum reactor, the fuel rod bundle is mainly positioned radially by the wire which can make contact with the adjacent fuel rods, and then it is inevitable that flow-induced vibration (FIV) will cause fretting wear and vibration fatigue of ...

Numerical analysis on the dynamic response of nuclear fuel rods under side drop loading
Spent nuclear fuel assemblies are stored in the cask with the necessary protective function during the spent fuel transportation or storage. The structural integrity of the fuel rods for the impact load caused by cask mishandling drop accident has to be ...
