Probabilistic Failure Analysis of SiC‐CMC/Nb Fuel Claddings Under Loss‐Of‐Coolant Accident Conditions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
A numerical framework leveraging finite element analysis is established to examine the thermomechanical behavior and burst safety of a novel accident‐tolerant fuel (ATF) cladding design. This design incorporates a thin niobium (Nb) liner positioned between two layers of silicon carbide ceramic matrix composites (SiC‐CMC).

Human and organizational factors for multi-unit probabilistic safety assessment: Identification and characterization for the Korean case

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2019
Since the Fukushima Daiichi accident, there has been an emphasis on the risk resulting from multi-unit accidents. Human reliability analysis (HRA) is one of the important issues in multi-unit probabilistic safety assessment (MUPSA).

Duck and Inform: A Content Analysis of Nuclear Risk Instructional Campaigns

open access: yesJournal of Contingencies and Crisis Management, Volume 33, Issue 2, June 2025.
ABSTRACT In response to the global energy and climate crises, many countries have decided to invest in the construction of new nuclear power plants. However, these developments bring safety and security concerns, further exacerbated by the complex relationship between energy demands and escalating geopolitical tensions.

Multi-unit Level 3 probabilistic safety assessment: Approaches and their application to a six-unit nuclear power plant site

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2018
The importance of performing Level 3 probabilistic safety assessments (PSA) along with a general interest in assessing multi-unit risk has been sharply increasing after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant (NPP) accident.

An inverse modeling method to assess the source term of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant accident using gamma dose rate observations [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2013
The Chernobyl nuclear accident, and more recently the Fukushima accident, highlighted that the largest source of error on consequences assessment is the source term, including the time evolution of the release rate and its distribution between ...

The Fukushima Event: The Outline and the Technological Background

open access: yesScience and Technology of Nuclear Installations, 2012
The paper deals with the evaluation of the Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) accident in Units 1 to 4: an attempt is made to discuss the scenario within a technological framework, considering precursory documented regulations and predictable ...

Application of Deep Neural Network to an Accelerated Prediction of a Severe Accident in Nuclear Power Plants

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Recent nuclear severe accidents have spurred interest in the development of advanced accident management support tools (AMSTs) to enhance decision‐making during crises. This study examines the efficacy of deep neural networks (DNNs) in accelerating severe accident predictions within nuclear power plants (NPPs), focusing on a loss‐of‐component‐cooling ...

Hydrodynamic Model of Fukushima-Daiichi Site Flooding

open access: yes, 2014
При проектировании и строительстве АЭС Fukushima-Daiichi максимальная высота цунами на основе анализа статистических данных (с учетом землетрясения в Чили в 1960 г.) оценивалась приблизительно в 3 м.

Development of Emergency Planning Zones for Ghana’s Proposed Nuclear Plant Based on Radioactivity Releases From Hypothetical Accident Scenarios

open access: yesScience and Technology of Nuclear Installations, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Emergency planning zones (EPZs) for Ghana’s potential reactor site have been determined based on an assessment of atmospheric dispersion and dose calculations for multiple accident scenarios involving a VVER‐1200 reactor. The analysis was performed using the Radiological Assessment System for Consequence Analysis (RASCAL) 4.3.4 code to calculate doses ...
