平成23年3月11日に発生した福島第一原子力発電所事故を確率論的安全評価(PSA)の観点から検討した.地震及び津波により原子力プラントの全電源が喪失し,炉心溶融に至った事故である.全電源喪失時に起こり得る事象/事態をそれらの連鎖・分岐で表現し,炉心損傷確率を算出した.現実には3基の原子炉で炉心損傷が発生してしまったが,評価結果では7日後でも炉心損傷確率は1号機では0.71であり,2,3号機では0.12と小さな値であった.この評価結果から,事故を防ぎ得る可能性がかなりあったことが分かった.その解析結果を基に,福島第一原子力発電所の事故について考察した.
