Resolution Analysis in Full Waveform Inversion
Geophysical Journal International, 2011We propose a new method for the quantitative resolution analysis in full seismic waveform inversion that overcomes the limitations of classical synthetic inversions while being computationally more efficient and applicable to any misfit measure. The method rests on (1) the local quadratic approximation of the misfit functional in the vicinity of an ...

Adjustive full waveform inversion
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2015, 2015One fundamental challenge of full waveform inversion(FWI) is the local minimum issue caused by the cycle skipping between the predicted and acquired data. To overcome this challenge and achieve a successful inversion, a good initial model becomes a necessary ingredient of FWI.

Inferring interior properties of the Sun from photospheric measurements of the seismic wavefield constitutes the helioseismic inverse problem. Deviations in seismic measurements (such as wave travel times) from their fiducial values estimated for a given model of the solar interior imply that the model is inaccurate.

Compressive full waveform lidar
SPIE Proceedings, 2017To avoid high bandwidth detector, fast speed A/D converter, and large size memory disk, a compressive full waveform LIDAR system, which uses a temporally modulated laser instead of a pulsed laser, is studied in this paper. Full waveform data from NEON (National Ecological Observatory Network) are used.

An introduction to full waveform inversion
2014Abstract Full waveform inversion (FWI) is a high-resolution seismic imaging technique that is based on using the entire content of seismic traces for extracting physical parameters of the medium sampled by seismic waves. The wide-spread strategy of seismic imaging, the single scattering formulation, at the core of FWI, assumes no ...

Simulating full-waveform lidar
SPIE Proceedings, 2010A simple Monte Carlo model of laser propagation through a tree is presented which allows the simulation of fullwaveform LIDAR signatures. The model incorporates a LIDAR system and a 'natural' scene, including an atmosphere, tree and ground surface. The PROSPECT leaf reflectance model is incorporated to determine leaf radiometric properties.

Decentralized Full-Waveform Inversion
Proceedings, 2018With the advent of efficient seismic data acquisition, we are having a surplus of seismic data, which is improving the imaging of the earth using full-waveform inversion. However, such inversion suffers from many issues, including (i) substantial network waiting time due to repeated communications of function and gradient values in the distributed ...

Implementation strategies of the seismic Full Waveform Inversion
2017 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2017Full waveform inversion (FWI) is a state-of-the-art method that has been used to estimate parameters of the Earth's subsurface. One of the main drawbacks of the FWI method is its high computational complexity in terms of both time and memory. This occurs because the inversion method is based on the computation of a gradient function that requires the ...

Nonparametric methods for full-waveform ladar images
2012 IEEE Statistical Signal Processing Workshop (SSP), 2012In the paper, the feasibility of using nonparametric methods to estimate the statistical distributions of full-waveform “Flash” laser radar (ladar) data is demonstrated. Unlike point cloud data, which consists solely of peak range and peak intensity information, full-waveform data captures the entire reflected ladar pulse, which enables more precise ...
