Viscoacoustic anisotropic full waveform inversion
Journal of Applied Geophysics, 2017Abstract A viscoacoustic vertical transverse isotropic (VTI) quasi-differential wave equation, which takes account for both the viscosity and anisotropy of media, is proposed for wavefield simulation in this study. The finite difference method is used to solve the equations, for which the attenuation terms are solved in the wavenumber domain, and all

Visco-acoustic Full Waveform Inversion
78th EAGE Conference and Exhibition 2016, 2016Acoustic full waveform inversion is nowadays an established technology to determine velocity background images from low-frequency and long-offset data sets with a focus on the diving waves. The depth of investigation can vary from a few hundred meters to a few kilometres.

Anisotropic 3D full-waveform inversion
GEOPHYSICS, 2013We have developed and implemented a robust and practical scheme for anisotropic 3D acoustic full-waveform inversion (FWI). We demonstrate this scheme on a field data set, applying it to a 4C ocean-bottom survey over the Tommeliten Alpha field in the North Sea.

Resolution Analysis in Full Waveform Inversion
Geophysical Journal International, 2011We propose a new method for the quantitative resolution analysis in full seismic waveform inversion that overcomes the limitations of classical synthetic inversions while being computationally more efficient and applicable to any misfit measure. The method rests on (1) the local quadratic approximation of the misfit functional in the vicinity of an ...

Inferring interior properties of the Sun from photospheric measurements of the seismic wavefield constitutes the helioseismic inverse problem. Deviations in seismic measurements (such as wave travel times) from their fiducial values estimated for a given model of the solar interior imply that the model is inaccurate.

3D Variational Full-Waveform Inversion
2022<p>Seismic full-waveform inversion (FWI) produces high resolution images of the subsurface by exploiting information in full seismic waveforms, and has been applied at global, regional and industrial spatial scales. FWI is traditionally solved by using optimization, in which one seeks a best model by minimizing the misfit between observed

Matching Pursuit Full Waveform Inversion
Proceedings, 2015One fundamental challenge of FWI is the local minimum issue caused by the cycle skipping between the predicted and acquired data. In order to overcome this challenge and achieve a successful inversion, a good initial model becomes a must-have ingredient of FWI. In another word, the background model has to be accurate enough to start FWI.

Elastic Reflection Full Waveform Inversion
Proceedings, 2018Reflection full waveform inversion is a formulation of full waveform inversion designed to extract low wavenumber velocity information from the reflected wavefield. In this works we extend reflection full waveform inversion to an elastic framework. This allows the estimation of both P-wave and S-wave velocities using reflected waveforms.
