Gastroschisis: preterm or term delivery?

open access: yesClinics, 2010
AIM: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the association between prematurity and the time to achieve full enteral feeding in newborns with gastroschisis.

Early versus delayed enteral nutrition for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy undergoing therapeutic hypothermia: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesItalian Journal of Pediatrics, 2022
Background The practice of therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is widely used for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) despite its corresponding feeding strategies are still controversial.

Two-hourly Feeding versus Three-hourly Feeding for Attaining Early Enteral Feed in Low-birth-weight Preterm Babies: A Randomised Controlled Trial [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2023
Introduction: There has been no consensus on whether a two-hour or three-hour feeding interval is safe and economical for preterm neonates. The parameters like feeding tolerance, the occurrence of infection and time required to attain full enteral feed ...

Nutrition of children with delay of four domestic growth

open access: yesЛечащий Врач, 2021
One of the important issues in the organization of nursing of children with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) is the issue of organizing enteral feeding.

Availability of donor milk improves enteral feeding but has limited effect on body growth of infants with very‐low birthweight: Data from a historic cohort study

open access: yesMaternal and Child Nutrition, 2022
Compare with preterm formula, donor human milk (DM) is associated with a lower risk of mortality and morbidity in preterm infants. It is thus deemed superior to preterm formula as the sole diet or supplement to own mother's milk (OMM) for preterm infants,

Nutritional management and postoperative prognosis of newborns submitted to primary surgical repair of gastroschisis

open access: yesJornal de Pediatria (Versão em Português), 2016
Objective: Gastroschisis is a defect of the abdominal wall, resulting in congenital evisceration and requiring neonatal intensive care, early surgical correction, and parenteral nutrition.

Hemodynamically stable very low birth neonates weight gain is affected by the early initiation of full enteral feedings compared to standard feeding

open access: yesJournal of Education and Health Promotion, 2023
BACKGROUND: Premature babies need to develop similarly to fetuses of the same gestational age. The majority of premature neonates experience a growth-restricted status while in the patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).

Delayed initiation but not gradual advancement of enteral formula feeding reduces the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm pigs. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Enteral formula feeding is a risk factor for necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in premature infants, yet studies are conflicting regarding the safest timing for introduction and advancement of feeds. Our aim was to test the effects of early vs.

Brief parenteral nutrition accelerates weight gain, head growth even in healthy VLBWs.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
IntroductionWhether parenteral nutrition benefits growth of very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants in the setting of rapid enteral feeding advancement is unclear.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
