Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Performance Analysis of a Hybrid One-Sided Magnetic Exciter Mounted on a Piezoelectric Stack

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2010
The present work proposes a non-contact hybrid exciter especially useful for harmonic excitation of lightly damped structures/rotors. In the proposed exciter an electromagnet is placed on a piezoelectric stack and the extension of the piezoelectric stack

Full-Stack Bioacoustics: Field Kit to AI to Action (Workshop report)

open access: yes, 2022
Acoustic data (sound recordings) are a vital source of evidence for detecting, counting, and distinguishing wildlife. This domain of "bioacoustics" has grown in the past decade due to the massive advances in signal processing and machine learning, recording devices, and the capacity of data processing and storage.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

Stacking the odds: full-stack quantum system design space exploration

open access: yesEPJ Quantum Technology
Abstract Design space exploration (DSE) plays an important role in optimising quantum circuit execution by systematically evaluating different configurations of compilation strategies and hardware settings. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive investigation into the impact of various layout methods, qubit routing techniques, and ...

Optimizing Stack-Yard Positioning in Full Shoreline Loading Operations

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Loading operations are a crucial part of container terminal activities and play a key role in influencing shoreline operation efficiency. To overcome the challenge of mismatched local ship decisions and global yard decisions during single-vessel ...

Band structure and Bloch states in birefringent 1D magnetophotonic crystals: An analytical approach

open access: yes, 2007
An analytical formulation for the band structure and Bloch modes in elliptically birefringent magnetophotonic crystals is presented. The model incorporates both the effects of gyrotropy and linear birefringence generally present in magneto-optic thin ...

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Full normalization for transfinite stacks

open access: yes, 2021
We describe the extension of normal iteration strategies with appropriate condensation properties to strategies for stacks of normal trees, with full normalization. Given a regular uncountable cardinal $Ω$ and an $(m,Ω+1)$-iteration strategy $Σ$ for a premouse $M$, such that $Σ$ and $M$ both have appropriate condensation properties, we extend $Σ$ to a ...
