Adjustive full waveform inversion
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2015, 2015One fundamental challenge of full waveform inversion(FWI) is the local minimum issue caused by the cycle skipping between the predicted and acquired data. To overcome this challenge and achieve a successful inversion, a good initial model becomes a necessary ingredient of FWI.

Inferring interior properties of the Sun from photospheric measurements of the seismic wavefield constitutes the helioseismic inverse problem. Deviations in seismic measurements (such as wave travel times) from their fiducial values estimated for a given model of the solar interior imply that the model is inaccurate.

Compressive full waveform lidar
SPIE Proceedings, 2017To avoid high bandwidth detector, fast speed A/D converter, and large size memory disk, a compressive full waveform LIDAR system, which uses a temporally modulated laser instead of a pulsed laser, is studied in this paper. Full waveform data from NEON (National Ecological Observatory Network) are used.

An introduction to full waveform inversion
2014Abstract Full waveform inversion (FWI) is a high-resolution seismic imaging technique that is based on using the entire content of seismic traces for extracting physical parameters of the medium sampled by seismic waves. The wide-spread strategy of seismic imaging, the single scattering formulation, at the core of FWI, assumes no ...

Simulating full-waveform lidar
SPIE Proceedings, 2010A simple Monte Carlo model of laser propagation through a tree is presented which allows the simulation of fullwaveform LIDAR signatures. The model incorporates a LIDAR system and a 'natural' scene, including an atmosphere, tree and ground surface. The PROSPECT leaf reflectance model is incorporated to determine leaf radiometric properties.

Decentralized Full-Waveform Inversion
Proceedings, 2018With the advent of efficient seismic data acquisition, we are having a surplus of seismic data, which is improving the imaging of the earth using full-waveform inversion. However, such inversion suffers from many issues, including (i) substantial network waiting time due to repeated communications of function and gradient values in the distributed ...

Prismatic wave contains a lot of subsurface information that primary can not reach. In this paper, prismatic wave is used alone for imaging in order to improve the inversion speed of high and steep structure. Under the guidance of this idea, a prismatic waveform inversion (PWI) method is proposed.

Reflection full waveform inversion
2016The Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) gradient is composed of a low wavenumber tomographic component and a high wavenumber migration component. A successful application of FWI requires that the low wavenumber parts of the model be recovered before the high wavenumbers.
