Simulating Agroecology Policy Options for the Resilience of Smallholder Food Security to Climate Shocks

open access: yesClimate Resilience and Sustainability, Volume 5, Issue 2, December 2026.
Climate shocks and the agroecology–resilience nexus of smallholders. Summary of key findings: Agroecology increases smallholder resilience capacity by 8.7% in the short term under a decreased rainfall scenario, a projected 11% decline in precipitation reduces resilience by 5.6% and 14.2% in the short and long terms, respectively, and a policy‐induced ...

River Sand and Gravel Mining: Global Drivers, Impacts, and Pathways for Sustainable Management

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 64, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract River sand and gravel are mined worldwide at volumes that now rival their natural replenishment, yet quantitative knowledge of this mining activity and its consequences lags far behind many other global environmental pressures. We synthesize 411 peer‐reviewed studies published since 1974 within a new Driver‐to‐Management Pathway for ...

Making Mining Licit: Gold, Commodification, and the Everyday Performance of Law in Colombia

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, Volume 128, Issue 3, Page 480-493, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Ethnographies of resource‐making have shown that the extraction of resource value from objects is premised on obviating the emplaced lifeworlds that surrounded objects before they traveled to consumer markets. Much of this literature looks at such supply‐chain disentanglement from the viewpoint of corporate and formal regulatory practices ...

Commercially Exploited Seaweed Species in Africa: Occurrences, Chemical Composition, Current Value Chain and Opportunities for Value Addition

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 4, September 2026.
Commercially exploited seaweed species in Africa, their biochemical composition, current uses, and value chain are reviewed. Potential value‐addition of seaweed is suggested regionally in Africa amongst countries producing similar seaweed species. ABSTRACT Africa has a wide range of coastal environments that support a diverse array of seaweed species ...

Assessing Biodiversity in Agricultural Landscapes Through Drone‐Based Environmental DNA Sampling

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We developed a drone‐based environmental DNA (eDNA) swabbing method to assess hexapod diversity in agricultural fields under three management types (conventional, organic, and IP‐Suisse), detecting 75 taxa across 19 families. eDNA replicates showed consistent within‐field results, though no significant differences in diversity were found between ...

Carbon Stocks in Sugarcane Biomass and Their Implications on Land Use Change CO2 Balance in Brazil

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2026.
This paper develops a regionalized carbon stock factor for sugarcane biomass in Brazil, showing that sugarcane cultivation can lead to net carbon removal in most municipalities. The findings improve greenhouse gas inventories and support bioenergy policies by providing more accurate, spatially resolved estimates for land use change emissions.

Gas concentration prediction model for fully mechanized coal mining face

open access: yesGong-kuang zidonghua, 2018
In view of problems of gas concentration prediction method based on least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) such as easy to fall into local optimal solution, low search efficiency and easy to occur premature convergence during parameter optimization process, a gas concentration prediction model based on ACO-LS-SVM was proposed.
