Analysis of microRNA functions

2019
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that repress the translation and reduce the stability of target mRNAs in animal cells. Post-transcriptional regulation mediated by miRNAs is a highly conserved mechanism utilized by organisms throughout phylogeny to fine tune gene expression.

Analysis of Tensor Functions

2009
Let us consider a real scalar-valued function \(f\left( {{\mathbf {A}}}_1,{{\mathbf {A}}}_2,\ldots ,{{\mathbf {A}}}_l\right) \) of second-order tensors \({{\mathbf {A}}}_k\in {\mathbf {L}}{\text {in}}^n \, \left( k=1,2,\ldots ,l\right) \).

Functional analysis of measurements

Electrical Engineering, 1946
HISTORY tells us that measurement has been one of the principal foundations upon which the material progress of mankind has been based. It is only by carefully comparing or measuring the unknown in terms of some known quantity or unit that real knowledge is advanced.

Elements of functional analysis

1976
Let L be a linear space over a topological field K. Suppose that: 1. L is a topological group under addition; 2. the mapping \( K \times L \to L:\left( {\lambda ,x} \right) \to \lambda x \) is continuous in both variables.

Fundamentals of Functional Analysis

1978
The purpose of this preliminary chapter is to introduce the basic terminology and results of functional and convex analysis which are used in the sequel.

Cochlear Function–An Analysis

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1985
A large number of experiments conducted since 1967 on live animals have suggested that mechanical processes in the cochlea are more complex than Békésy could observe on postmortem preparations. These experiments indicate that the entire sharp frequency analysis in the cochlea is performed by mechanical means.

The Shaping of Functional Analysis

Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society, 1997
This paper (based on a lecture given in Oxford in May 1995) outlines the development of linear functional analysis over the years 1895-1938. It is remarked that although up to 1909 much had been achieved in dealing with various problems in the field, no general unifying theme was visible at this date.

Functional Analysis and Proper Functions

The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, 1993
The etiological approach to 'proper functions' in biology can be strengthened by relating it to Robert Cummins' general treatment of function ascription. The proper functions of a biological trait are the functions it is assigned in a Cumminsstyle functional explanation of the fitness of ancestors.
