Impacts of COVID-19 on Motor Vehicle Crash Frequency and Severity by Functional Classification and Land Use Context

open access: yesTransactions on Transport Sciences, 2023
Reduced traffic exposure due to COVID-19 lockdowns may have resulted in changes to both the frequency and severity of motor vehicle crashes. In order to better understand the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on traffic safety outcomes in US DOT Region 6, we ...

Functional classification of bitcoin addresses

open access: yesComputational Statistics & Data Analysis, 2023
This paper proposes a classification model for predicting the main activity of bitcoin addresses based on their balances. Since the balances are functions of time, we apply methods from functional data analysis; more specifically, the features of the proposed classification model are the functional principal components of the data.

PLS classification of functional data [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Statistics, 2007
Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) is considered when the predictor is of functional type (\(L_2\) stochastic process). The partial least squares (PLS) approach is used for dimension reduction before LDA. Estimates of the discriminant coefficient functions and discriminant scores are proposed.

Robust Classification of Functional and Quantitative Image Data Using Functional Mixed Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper describes how to perform classification of complex, high-dimensional functional data using the functional mixed model (FMM) framework. The FMM relates a functional response to a set of predictors through functional fixed and random effects ...

On the Complexity of Classification Functions [PDF]

open access: yes38th International Symposium on Multiple Valued Logic (ismvl 2008), 2008
A classification function is a multiple-valued input function specified by a set of rules, where each rule is a conjunction of range functions. The function is useful for packet classification for internet, network intrusion detection system, etc. This paper considers the complexity of range functions and classification functions represented by sum-of ...
