Bi-Smoothed Functional Independent Component Analysis for EEG Artifact Removal
Motivated by mapping adverse artifactual events caused by body movements in electroencephalographic (EEG) signals, we present a functional independent component analysis based on the spectral decomposition of the kurtosis operator of a smoothed principal

Functional single index models for longitudinal data
A new single-index model that reflects the time-dynamic effects of the single index is proposed for longitudinal and functional response data, possibly measured with errors, for both longitudinal and time-invariant covariates.

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Tolerance Bands for Functional Data
SummaryOften the object of inference in biomedical applications is a range that brackets a given fraction of individual observations in a population. A classical estimate of this range for univariate measurements is a “tolerance interval.” This article develops its natural extension for functional measurements, a “tolerance band,” and proposes a ...

Functional data analysis in the Banach space of continuous functions [PDF]
Functional data analysis is typically conducted within the $L^2$-Hilbert space framework. There is by now a fully developed statistical toolbox allowing for the principled application of the functional data machinery to real-world problems, often based ...

ABSTRACT Background We describe clinical and biologic characteristics of neuroblastoma in older children, adolescents, and young adults (OCAYA); describe survival outcomes in the post‐immunotherapy era; and identify if there is an age cut‐off that best discriminates outcomes.

Nonparametric Expectile Shortfall Regression for Complex Functional Structure
This paper treats the problem of risk management through a new conditional expected shortfall function. The new risk metric is defined by the expectile as the shortfall threshold.
