DIVERSITY OF OLIGONUCLEOTIDE FUNCTIONS

Annual Review of Biochemistry, 1995
SELEX is a technology for the identification of high affinity oligonucleotide ligands. Large libraries of random sequence single-stranded oligonucleotides, whether RNA or DNA, can be thought of conformationally not as short strings but rather as sequence dependent folded structures with high degrees of molecular rigidity in solution.

Functional Diversity of Laminins

Annual Review of Cell and Developmental Biology, 2012
Laminins are a large family of conserved, multidomain trimeric basement membrane proteins that contribute to the structure of extracellular matrix and influence the behavior of associated cells, such as adhesion, differentiation, migration, phenotype stability, and resistance to anoikis.

Phyllosphere microbiome: Diversity and functions

Microbiological Research, 2022
Phyllosphere or aerial surface of plants represents the globally largest and peculiar microbial habitat that inhabits diverse and rich communities of bacteria, fungi, viruses, cyanobacteria, actinobacteria, nematodes, and protozoans. These hyperdiverse microbial communities are related to the host's specific functional traits and influence the host's ...

Plant Functional Group Diversity Promotes Soil Protist Diversity

Protist, 2003
We tested whether effects of plant diversity can propagate through food webs, down to heterotrophic protists not linked directly to plants. To this end we synthesised grassland ecosystems with varying numbers of plant functional groups (FGN) and assessed corresponding changes in testate amoebae communities. The number of plant species was kept constant.

Functional Diversity

2012
There is increasing evidence to support a gene economy model that is fully based on the principles of evolution in which a limited number of proteins does not necessarily reflect a finite number of biochemical processes. The concept of 'gene sharing' proposes that a single protein can have alternate functions that are typically attributed to other ...

Diverse CD1d-restricted T cells: diverse phenotypes, and diverse functions

Seminars in Immunology, 2000
Invariant CD1d-restricted T cells express NK cell markers and use a limited TCR repertoire. Here, we describe a second CD1d-restricted T cell subset that uses a diverse TCR repertoire. These T cells can also express NK cell markers and function similarly to invariant T cells. The antigens recognized by the diverse subset are likely to be different from

Hierarchical Connectome Modes and Critical State Jointly Maximize Human Brain Functional Diversity.

Physical Review Letters, 2019
The brain requires diverse segregated and integrated processing to perform normal functions in terms of anatomical structure and self-organized dynamics with critical features, but the fundamental relationships between the complex structural connectome ...
