Validity of a Wearable Digital Insole for Assessing Gait ON and OFF in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Gait impairment is a distinctive symptom of Parkinson's disease that negatively impact mobility. We assessed the validity of wearable digital insoles against a validated reference gait analysis system for measuring select gait characteristics in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods A comparative analysis between digital insoles

Effect of Habitat Disturbance on Colony Productivity of the Social Wasp Mischocyttarus consimilis Zikán (Hymenoptera, Vespidae)

open access: yesSociobiology, 2013
Social wasps are important elements of the fauna in a variety of environments, including human-modified environments. Evidence indicates that habitat quality affects the growth of  colonies of social wasps in urban environments.

Extracellular Enzymatic Activities of Oceanic Pelagic Fungal Strains and the Influence of Temperature

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2022
Although terrestrial and aquatic fungi are well-known decomposers of organic matter, the role of marine fungi remains largely unknown. Recent studies based on omics suggest that marine fungi potentially play a major role in elemental cycles.

Simple individual-based models effectively represent Afrotropical forest bird movement in complex landscapes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Reliable estimates of dispersal rates between habitat patches (i.e. functional connectivity) are critical for predicting long-term effects of habitat fragmentation on population persistence.

Comparing the Effect of Semi‐Immersive Virtual Reality, Computerized Cognitive Training, and Traditional Rehabilitation on Cognitive Function in Multiple Sclerosis: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Cognitive impairment is a common non‐motor symptom in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), negatively affecting autonomy and Quality of Life (QoL). Innovative rehabilitation strategies, such as semi‐immersive virtual reality (VR) and computerized cognitive training (CCT), may offer advantages over traditional cognitive rehabilitation (TCR ...

Mycorrhizal fungal and tree root functional traits: Strategies for integration and future directions

open access: yesEcosphere, 2023
Plant functional traits offer ecologists quantifiable characteristics that may be used to determine the underlying mechanisms and drivers of processes at scales ranging from individual plants to entire ecosystems. While research on belowground functional

The relationship between metabolic rate and sociability is altered by food-deprivation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Individuals vary in the extent to which they associate with conspecifics, but little is known about the energetic underpinnings of this variation in sociability. Group-living allows individuals to find food more consistently, but within groups, there can

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

European database of the life-history, morphological and habitat characteristics of dragonflies (Odonata)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2020
Climate change and an ever-increasing effect of humans on the great majority of freshwater ecosystems have affected not only individual organisms but also the links between them. In order to effectively protect communities or entire freshwater ecosystems,
