Hyperthyroidism in cats, part I : anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In the first part of this review article, thyroid anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology are reviewed to continue more specifically on hyperthyroidism, the most common thyroid disorder in cats.

Optimal Bayes Classifiers for Functional Data and Density Ratios

open access: yes, 2016
Bayes classifiers for functional data pose a challenge. This is because probability density functions do not exist for functional data. As a consequence, the classical Bayes classifier using density quotients needs to be modified.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Combination of volume and perfusion parameters reveals different types of grey matter changes in schizophrenia

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Diverse brain structural and functional changes have been reported in schizophrenia. Identifying different types of brain changes may help to understand the neural mechanisms and to develop reliable biomarkers in schizophrenia.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Maternal fluoxetine exposure alters cortical hemodynamic and calcium response of offspring to somatosensory stimuli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Epidemiological studies have found an increased incidence of neurodevelopmental disorders in populations prenatally exposed to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Current Density Impedance Imaging of an Anisotropic Conductivity in a Known Conformal Class [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present a procedure for recovering the conformal factor of an anisotropic conductivity matrix in a known conformal class in a domain in Euclidean space of dimension greater than or equal to 2.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

MRI-guided cell membrane-camouflaged bimetallic coordination nanoplatform for combined tumor phototherapy

open access: yesMaterials Today Bio
Nanotechnology for tumor diagnosis and optical therapy has attracted widespread interest due to its low toxicity and convenience but is severely limited due to uncontrollable tumor targeting.
