Improving Estimations of Spatial Distribution of Soil Respiration Using the Bayesian Maximum Entropy Algorithm and Soil Temperature as Auxiliary Data. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Soil respiration inherently shows strong spatial variability. It is difficult to obtain an accurate characterization of soil respiration with an insufficient number of monitoring points. However, it is expensive and cumbersome to deploy many sensors.

Ordinary kriging for function-valued spatial data

open access: yesEnvironmental and Ecological Statistics, 2010
In various scientific fields properties are represented by functions varying over space. In this paper, we present a methodology to make spatial predictions at non-data locations when the data values are functions. In particular, we propose both an estimator of the spatial correlation and a functional kriging predictor.

Residual Kriging for Functional Spatial Prediction of Salinity Curves [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 2014
Recently, several methodologies to perform geostatistical analysis of functional data have been proposed. All of them assume that the spatial functional process considered is stationary. However, in practice, we often have nonstationary functional data because there exists an explicit spatial trend in the mean.

Physics-based Residual Kriging for dynamically evolving functional random fields [PDF]

open access: yesStochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, 2022
AbstractWe present a novel approach named Physics-based Residual Kriging for the statistical prediction of spatially dependent functional data. It incorporates a physical model—expressed by a partial differential equation—within a Universal Kriging setting through a geostatistical modelization of the residuals with respect to the physical model.

Nonparametric Methods in Astronomy: Think, Regress, Observe -- Pick Any Three [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Telescopes are much more expensive than astronomers, so it is essential to minimize required sample sizes by using the most data-efficient statistical methods possible.

Analysis and spatial prediction of water retention curves in two types of soil

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental
Soil is a medium that stores and transfers air, water, nutrients and heat to microorganisms and plants. Its water storage capacity is studied by analysing water retention curves (WRCs), which establish the relationship between soil water content and the ...

Design and optimization of wall-climbing robot impeller by genetic algorithm based on computational fluid dynamics and kriging model

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
In recent years, wall-climbing robots have begun to replace manual work at heights to reduce economic losses and casualties caused by working at heights. This paper designs a negative pressure adsorption type wall-climbing robot and analyzes the internal

Evaluation of the performance of remotely sensed rainfall datasets for flood simulation in the transboundary Mono River catchment, Togo and Benin

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology: Regional Studies, 2021
Study region: This study focused on the Mono River Basin in west Africa. Study focus: The lack of extensive and functional measurement networks for flood monitoring, introduces satellite-based rainfall datasets as an alternative which needs however to be

Reliability assessment of cutting tool life based on surrogate approximation methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A novel reliability estimation approach to the cutting tools based on advanced approximation methods is proposed. Methods such as the stochastic response surface and surrogate modeling are tested, starting from a few sample points obtained through ...
