Cognitive Functioning as a Predictor of Functional Disability in Later Life
The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, 2006The contribution of cognitive functioning on multiple levels of functional disability and mortality over two years as well as individual activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) tasks, in a sample of older U.S. adults was examined.A total of 4,077 U.S.

Functional Lateralization of the Brain
The Journal of Special Education, 1984Research concerning the lateralization of human brain functions is examined in light of the recent publication of the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC). Following a review of research methodologies and functions ascribed to the hemispheres of the brain, differences are portrayed as complementary and coexisting modes of cognitive ...

Wisdom and Psychosocial Functioning in Later Life
Journal of Personality, 2015AbstractWe investigated the connection between wisdom‐related performance, personality, and generativity to further the understanding of how they are interrelated. Our sample consisted of 163 men and women 68–77 years of age, mostly White, and predominantly middle class.

Cerebral Hemisphere Function and Laterality of Migraine
Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, 2010We report preliminary findings of a study exploring the hypothesis that migraine is the experience of a protective cerebrovascular mechanism arising in response to unilateral cerebral information overload. The necessary population to be studied, namely those with exclusive one-sided migraine, proved to be rare.

Onset of neural function in the lateral line
Nature, 1979The development of the nervous system includes the formation of specific neuronal connections. Some insight into the mechanisms by which these connections are made may be obtained by determining the order in which the elements of a developing system begin to function and examining any changes that may occur in the system shortly after it begins ...

Lateralization of Psychological Function
1981Each side of the brain controls the opposite side of the body. This holds true for sensory and motor function, with a few minor exceptions. The first portion of this chapter reviews thalamocortical input and corticoreticular output with the maximum brevity compatible with understanding.

The functional locus of the lateralized readiness potential
Psychophysiology, 2004AbstractThe lateralized readiness potential (LRP) is considered to reflect motor activation and has been used extensively as a tool in elucidating cognitive processes. In the present study, we attempted to more precisely determine the origins of the LRP within the cognitive system.

LATERALIZATION OF BILINGUAL DIGIT SPAN FUNCTIONS
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 198436 Chinese-English bilingual undergraduates were tested on forward and backward digit spans in both Chinese and English in monaural listening tests. There was a significant right-ear advantage for forward digit span in Chinese but not in English, suggesting different hemispheric involvement.
