Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Kinematic and Kinetic Gait Principal Component Domains in Older Adults With and Without Functional Disability: A Cross-Sectional Study

open access: yesJournal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology
Objectives: Gait kinematic and kinetic changes have been identified in older adults, highlighting the need to explore the principal age-related components and how these are associated with functional disability.

EFFECT OF HOT-WATER BLANCHING IN TREHALOSE SOLUTIONS ON BOTH NUTRITIONAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL QUALITY OF SLICED ORGANIC CARROTS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The aim of the present work was to evaluate the effect of blanching treatments at 75 and 90°C for 3 min in trehalose solution (4% w/v) on nutritional and technological quality of organic carrot (cv. Romance) slices of 5-mm thickness.

Feasibility of a ctDNA multigenic panel for non‐small‐cell lung cancer early detection and disease surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Plasma‐based detection of actionable mutations is a promising approach in lung cancer management. Analysis of ctDNA with a multigene NGS panel identified TP53, KRAS, and EGFR as the most frequently altered, with TP53 and KRAS in treatment‐naïve patients and TP53 and EGFR in previously treated patients.

Dynamic functional principal components [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, we address the problem of dimension reduction for sequentially observed functional data (X_k : k ∈ Z). Such functional time series arise frequently, e.g., when a continuous time process is segmented into some smaller natural units, such

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Generalized Conditional Functional Principal Component Analysis

open access: yes
We propose generalized conditional functional principal components analysis (GC-FPCA) for the joint modeling of the fixed and random effects of non-Gaussian functional outcomes. The method scales up to very large functional data sets by estimating the principal components of the covariance matrix on the linear predictor scale conditional on the fixed ...

Robust forecasting of mortality and fertility rates: a functional data approach [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a new method for forecasting age-specific mortality and fertility rates observed over time. Our approach allows for smooth functions of age, is robust for outlying years due to wars and epidemics, and provides a modelling framework that is ...
