A Novel Longitudinal Proteomic Aging Index Predicts Mortality, Multimorbidity, and Frailty in Older Adults. [PDF]

open access: yesAging Cell
We used proteomic data from three longitudinal visits in the ARIC study to construct a single longitudinal proteomic aging index (LPAI) that captures both cumulative aging burden and dynamic aging trajectories. Higher LPAI was associated with increased risks of mortality, frailty, and multimorbidity.

Phenological Variation and Evolution Across Space and Time in the Scarlet Monkeyflower (<i>Erythranthe cardinalis</i>). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Climate change is altering ecological dynamics, particularly in species with latitudinal range variation. This study investigates how the scarlet monkeyflower's flowering phenology has evolved in response to recent droughts in California. We find that southern populations are flowering later and larger, while northern populations flower earlier and ...

Tutorial on Bayesian Functional Regression Using Stan. [PDF]

open access: yesStat Med
ABSTRACT This manuscript provides step‐by‐step instructions for implementing Bayesian functional regression models using Stan. Extensive simulations indicate that the inferential performance of the methods is comparable to that of state‐of‐the‐art frequentist approaches.

Application and interpretation of functional data analysis techniques to differential scanning calorimetry data from lupus patients. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
DSC is used to determine thermally-induced conformational changes of biomolecules within a blood plasma sample. Recent research has indicated that DSC curves (or thermograms) may have different characteristics based on disease status and, thus, may be ...

Characterizing bidirectional transitions in mild cognitive impairment and post-reversion based on longitudinal neuroimaging and cognitive assessments. [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract INTRODUCTION Characterizing transitions of cognitive state, including reversion from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to normal cognition (NC) and subsequent cognitive stability or deterioration for post‐reversion, has so far remained limited. METHODS Using a retrospective cohort of subjects with an MCI diagnosis at study entry and at least two

Functional principal components analysis via penalized rank one approximation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Two existing approaches to functional principal components analysis (FPCA) are due to Rice and Silverman (1991) and Silverman (1996), both based on maximizing variance but introducing penalization in different ways.

Sociodemographic, Health and Lifestyle, Sampling, and Mental Health Determinants of 24-Hour Motor Activity Patterns: Observational Study

open access: yesJournal of Medical Internet Research, 2021
BackgroundAnalyzing actigraphy data using standard circadian parametric models and aggregated nonparametric indices may obscure temporal information that may be a hallmark of the circadian impairment in psychiatric disorders.
