The Inspired Sinewave Technique: A Comparison Study With Body Plethysmography in Healthy Volunteers

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine, 2017
The inspired sinewave technique is a noninvasive method to measure airway dead space, functional residual capacity, pulmonary blood flow, and lung inhomogeneity simultaneously. The purpose of this paper was to assess the repeatability and accuracy of the

Cluster analysis identifies three urodynamic patterns in patients with orthotopic neobladder reconstruction. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
To classify patients with orthotopic neobladder based on urodynamic parameters using cluster analysis and to characterize the voiding function of each group. From January 2012 to November 2015, 142 patients with bladder cancer underwent radical cystectomy

FUNCTIONAL RESIDUAL CAPACITY DURING ANAESTHESIA II: SPONTANEOUS RESPIRATION

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 1974
Functional residual capacity has been measured by helium dilution in 26 spontaneously breathing patients before and immediately after anaesthesia, which was induced with thiopentone and maintained with halothane. The mean reduction was 390 ml (16.1% or pre-induction value) and the change was highly significant (P less than 0.001).

Anatomy and physiology of respiratory system relevant to anaesthesia

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2015
Clinical application of anatomical and physiological knowledge of respiratory system improves patient's safety during anaesthesia. It also optimises patient's ventilatory condition and airway patency.

Accuracy of the end-expiratory lung volume measured by the modified nitrogen washout/washin technique: a bench study

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2021
Background The functional residual capacity (FRC) determines the oxygenating capacity of the lung and is heavily affected in the clinical context of the acute respiratory distress syndrome. Nitrogen-wash-in/wash-out methods have been used to measure FRC.

Effects of anaesthesia techniques and drugs on pulmonary function

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2015
The primary task of the lungs is to maintain oxygenation of the blood and eliminate carbon dioxide through the network of capillaries alongside alveoli.

Inherent vs. Induced Loop Gain Abnormalities in Obstructive Sleep Apnea

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2018
Unstable ventilatory chemoreflex control, quantified as loop gain, is recognized as one of four key pathophysiological traits that contribute to cause obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Effects of graded exercise training on functional capacity, muscle strength, and fatigue after renal transplantation: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, 2020
Successful renal transplantation (RT) recipients suffer residual muscle weakness, fatigue, and low functional capacity. A safe, feasible, structured, early graded exercise training to improve functional capacity, muscle strength, and fatigue is the need ...
