A histidine‐rich extension of the mitochondrial F0 subunit ATP6 from the ice worm Mesenchytraeus solifugus increases ATP synthase activity in bacteria

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The glacier ice worm Mesenchytraeus solifugus survives year‐round at 0 °C. Its ATP6 subunit, which forms a regulatory component of the proton pore in mitochondrial ATP synthase, has a carboxy‐terminal extension not found in any other organism examined to date. Here, we show that fusion of this extension to the homologous AtpB protein in E. coli results

Global stability of day-to-day dynamics for schedule-based Markovian transit assignment with boarding queues [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Schedule-based transit assignment describes congestion in public transport services by modeling the interactions of passenger behavior in a time-space network built directly on a transit schedule. This study investigates the theoretical properties of scheduled-based Markovian transit assignment with boarding queues.

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

Structural and mechanistic basis for the regulation of the chloroplast signal recognition particle by (p)ppGpp

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LHCPs are transported to the thylakoid membrane via the (cp)SRP pathway. This process involves a transit complex of (cp)SRP43, (cp)SRP54 and LHCP, which interacts with (cp)FtsY and Alb3 at the membrane. GTP hydrolysis by (cp)SRP54 and (cp)FtsY triggers complex dissociation.

The multiple roles of the NlpC_P60 peptidase family in mycobacteria – an underexplored target for antimicrobial drug discovery

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The NlpC_P60 superfamily of peptidases is recognised by its key role in bacterial cell wall homeostasis. Recently, studies have also described the involvement of NlpC_P60‐like enzymes in bacterial competitive mechanisms and pathogenesis across several lineages.

Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis acid resistance and pH homeostasis mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis exhibits a remarkable resilience to acid stress. In this Review, we discuss some of the molecular mechanisms and metabolic pathways used by the tubercle bacilli to adapt and resist host‐mediated acid stress. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is a successful pathogen that has developed a variety of strategies to survive and ...

A Robin formula for the Fekete-Leja transfinite diameter [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
This note gives a higher-dimensional generalization of the classical formula cap(K) = exp(-V(E)) expressing the logarithmic capacity in terms of the residue at infinity of its Green's function. The proof uses arithmetic intersection theory.

Resource Allocation for Millimeter-Wave Train-Ground Communications in High-Speed Railway Scenarios [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
With the development of wireless communication, higher requirements arise for train-ground wireless communications in high-speed railway (HSR) scenarios. The millimeter-wave (mm-wave) frequency band with rich spectrum resources can provide users in HSR scenarios with high performance broadband multimedia services, while the full-duplex (FD) technology ...

The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...
