Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation
2019Functional tricuspid regurgitation (FTR) is an important prognosticator in many cardiac diseases. Although surgical intervention has been being frequently applied, the success of current repair techniques is often uncertain and observation of residual or progressive FTR after tricuspid valve annuloplasty is not uncommon.

We describe a technique for treating severe functional tricuspid regurgitation (TR) when residual regurgitation cannot be eliminated with ring annuloplasty alone. The anterior leaflet and the anterior half of the posterior leaflet are augmented with an elliptic pericardial patch before implantation of a rigid annuloplasty ring.

We describe a modified technique of tricuspid ring annuloplasty to reduce postoperative residual regurgitation in patients with functional tricuspid regurgitation; first, an adjustable segmental tricuspid annuloplasty is performed to obtain coaptation of the valve leaflets with two 5-0 monofilament annular sutures, and then a prosthetic ring of the ...

Echocardiography, 2019
Secondary tricuspid regurgitation (TR) caused by right ventricular enlargement in the setting of left heart disease/pulmonary hypertension has been well described. In contrast, that associated with right atrial enlargement—atrial functional TR (AF‐TR)—remains largely underappreciated.

Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation: A Perplexing Problem
Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, 2009Although the axiom form follows function was originally coined by Louis Sullivan in 1896 to describe the functionality of tall buildings, it is also used in medicine but with less mathematic formulation. For instance, the anatomy of the tricuspid valve (TV) is highly variable and yet it functions perfectly well as long as the right ventricle is normal.

Isolated Tricuspid Valve Surgery for Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation
The Thoracic and Cardiovascular SurgeonAbstract Background Severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) adversely affects long-term survival; however, isolated tricuspid valve (TV) surgery has been rarely performed due to high operative mortality. In addition, the previous literature included heterogeneous TR etiologies.

Influence of functional tricuspid regurgitation on right ventricular function
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1998Although right ventricular (RV) function has been extensively studied during the past decade, few reports have described the influence of functional tricuspid regurgitation (TR) on RV function. One hundred forty-two patients with left-side valvular heart disease associated with TR were enrolled in the study and divided into three groups according to ...

Tricuspid Ring Annuloplasty for Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation
2016Tricuspid ring annuloplasty is the most common technique of tricuspid valve repair with consistent reproducible results. It is indicated at the time of left sided heart valve surgery when tricuspid regurgitation is severe or when it is associated with tricuspid annular dilatation or raised pulmonary artery pressures.
