Extracardiac Tricuspid Annuloplasty: A Novel Technique for Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2021We report 3 cases of functional tricuspid regurgitation and demonstrate a novel tricuspid repair technique through the right atrioventricular groove without cardiopulmonary bypass or open heart surgery, which provides a new idea for the treatment of functional tricuspid regurgitation.

Secondary tricuspid regurgitation (TR) caused by right ventricular enlargement in the setting of left heart disease/pulmonary hypertension has been well described. In contrast, that associated with right atrial enlargement—atrial functional TR (AF‐TR)—remains largely underappreciated.

Tricuspid Valve Anterior Leaflet Strains in Ovine Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation
Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2021Functional tricuspid regurgitation (FTR) is thought to arise due to annular dilation and alteration of right ventricular (RV) geometry in the presence of normal leaflets, yet mitral leaflets have been shown to remodel significantly in functional mitral regurgitation.

Undersized Tricuspid Annuloplasty Rings Optimally Treat Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2011In contrast to mitral valve repair, residual and recurrent regurgitation after tricuspid valve (TV) repair for functional tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is common. We have systematically used undersized, rigid 3-dimensional annuloplasty rings to treat functional TR.From March 2006 to October 2009, 101 consecutive patients with moderate or greater ...

We describe a modified technique of tricuspid ring annuloplasty to reduce postoperative residual regurgitation in patients with functional tricuspid regurgitation; first, an adjustable segmental tricuspid annuloplasty is performed to obtain coaptation of the valve leaflets with two 5-0 monofilament annular sutures, and then a prosthetic ring of the ...

Progression of Tricuspid Regurgitation After Repaired Functional Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation [PDF]
Background— Despite correction of left-sided cardiac lesions, associated functional tricuspid regurgitation (TR) that was surgically ignored can persist. It can also appear de novo. The aim of this study was to analyze TR in a group of patients who underwent successful revascularization and mitral ...

Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation: A Perplexing Problem
Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, 2009Although the axiom form follows function was originally coined by Louis Sullivan in 1896 to describe the functionality of tall buildings, it is also used in medicine but with less mathematic formulation. For instance, the anatomy of the tricuspid valve (TV) is highly variable and yet it functions perfectly well as long as the right ventricle is normal.

The Pathogenesis of Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation
Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2010Functional tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is a common etiology of TR. Functional TR results from geometrical distortion of the normal spatial relationships of the tricuspid leaflets, annulus, chords, papillary muscles, and right ventricular (RV) walls. Functional TR results most commonly from left-sided heart disease, including mitral valve abnormalities

Basis for Intervention on Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation
Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2010Functional tricuspid regurgitation is a complex valvular lesion. Its optimal management remains controversial in the current era as the result of uncertainties regarding accurate diagnosis, surgical indication, the appropriate surgical procedure, and the late results of surgical treatment.
